April 13th Is Rhode Island Library Day! 
Help us celebrate this year's theme, 
"Libraries = Strong Communities,"
by participating in some fantastic events: 
  • Got fines? Bring in any overdue library materials and we'll forgive any fines attached to those items. 
  • Visit the Children's Room from 11:00am-1:00pm for a bookmark craft. Visit the library lollipop tree for a special treat and a chance to win a book. 
  • From 1:00-3:00pm, bring your own light-colored T-shirt to the Community Room and learn how to screen-print our custom Library Day design. 
  • And don't forget to shop from our newly stocked Book Nook, care of the Friends of Tiverton Libraries!

If you are looking for something to do and want to save money, check out our passes. They may be reserved online. To do that, click here. Some attractions have events planned for April break. 
Have you seen the Friends' new Book Nook? It's full of a lot of great books for sale. They can be paid for at the Information Desk.
ADULT EVENTS

Retro Game Club: Championship Edition
Tuesday, April 2nd, 6:00pm,
Community Room
It's a frenzy of fisticuffs at Retro Game Club this month as we duke it out across a variety of classic boxing games, beat-em-ups, and fighting games. Test your might in classic titles such as Marvel vs. Capcom, Street Fighter, Tekken, Virtua Fighter, Smash Bros., and more. Registration is recommended but not required. AARP Tax Prep, Community Room
Every Wednesday and Thursday through April 11th, 1 0:00am-3:00pm, Community Room
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide offers free, individualized tax preparation for low-to moderate-income taxpayers - especially those 50 and older - at nearly 5,000 locations nationwide. For a list of documents to bring with you, click here.

Cookbook Club
Wednesday, April 10th, 6:00pm, Community Room
A book club with a tasty twist! We read cookbooks and come together to share the tasty recipes that lie inside their pages. This month we'll be sampling recipes from Magnolia Table by Joanna Gaines. Adult Knitting Meet Up
Tuesday, April 16th, 6:30pm, Learning Center
A casual meeting for knitters looking to work on their projects with others who enjoy knitting and crocheting. Join us on the Third Tuesday of the month to meet and socialize with local knitters. 

Painting Landscapes with John Irwin
Wednesday, April 17, 4:00pm, Learning Center
Local artist John Irwin will take students step by step through the process of starting a landscape painting and deciding when it is finished. All materials will be supplied. Evolution of Folk
Monday, April 22nd, 6:30pm, Community Room
An informational performance about the evolution of folk music through the ages, presented by Kevin McIsaac. Kevin McIsaac is a long-time folksinger, beginning in the 1960s. As well as singing traditional and contemporary folk, he writes a good deal of his own material. 
 
Free Movie Night: Mission Impossible - Fallout (2018; Rated PG-13, 2h, 27min)
Wednesday, April 24th, 5:30pm
Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong. Popcorn and drinks will be provided.



Adult Game Night
Thursday, April 25th, 7:00pm, Community Room
Join us for a laid back game night at the library. Play one of our games, ranging from board-building strategy to trivia-style games and more, or bring your own! If you are interested in joining in, or for more information, contact   [email protected] .
 
Local History Presentation
Monday, April 29, 6:30pm, Community Room
Jeff Howe, a long-time writer and researcher of Rhode Island history, will share a story of two Rhode Island boys who went to sea and never returned, and of researchers on the opposite sides of the earth who pieced together their story. 
 
TEEN EVENTS
 
Teen Advisory Board 
FIRST TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH 
Tuesday, April 2nd, 6:00pm, Teen Room 
Come hang out and discuss titles that you are reading, talk about what you would like to see  happen at the library, and eat some snacks!    Earn a community service hour for  attending! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.

Bring whatever you're reading (have read) and discuss it (even better if you didn't like it!) with other readers. Snacks provided! Participation is limited to patrons in Grades 6 through 12.
 
Anime & Manga Group 
THIRD FRIDAY OF THE MONTH

Monthly Anime & Manga meet-up is starting up again!  Join other interested teens in lively discussion, anime viewing, craft making, and snack eating!    Also, help us with our long-term goal of planning a cosplay event! Attendance is limited to patrons in Grades 6  through 12.

Action-Packed Movies at the Library
Saturday, April 20th, 12:00pm, Community Room
Bring your lunch and join us for a dine-in showing of Bumblebee projected on the big screen in our Community Room. Free popcorn and candy provided! Our Teen Movie showings are part of our Teen Program offerings but are open to all patrons.
 
 
SyncAudiobooks - Free Audiobooks for Teens
Every Thursday from April 25th through August 1st
SYNC is a free summer audiobook program for teens 13+. Starting on April 25, SYNC will give away two complete audiobook downloads a week - pairs of high-interest titles - based on weekly themes. In advance of accessing the program, download the OverDrive app to whichever device you anticipate listening on and be ready to go! Sign-up to get notifications when the FREE audiobook downloads are available. You can receive alerts by text message, email newsletter, or by visiting www.audiobooksync.com. Titles change every Thursday at 7:00am when the program is running. Ask a librarian to help you get ready for free audiobooks!

Please note the change in meeting date - the Union Public Library Book Group will meet on the FOURTH Thursday in April. This month, we will be discussing Chigozie Obioma's book, The Fisherman.

Earth Day Celebration

Ages 5+
Join the Tiverton Land Trust and Tiverton Garden Club to view Dr. Seuss' THE LORAX. Following the film, families will get help potting a Colorado Blue spruce tree for planting in their yard. Participation is limited to 30 families. Please contact the Tiverton Public Library at 625-6796 or visit tivertonlibrary.org to reserve a seedling.  
 
This special event is sponsored by the Tiverton Land Trust and Tiverton Garden Club.
 
APRIL STORYTIMES
 
Storytime Adventures
Who:  Children ages 3-5 years
When:  Mondays - April 1st, 8th, and 22nd (No Storytime April 15th or 29th)
Two Sessions:   10:15am - 11:00am
                         11:15am - 12:00pm                      
Where:  Children's Activity Room
What:   Join Mr. Monkey and Miss Meg for a storytime adventure. Each week, we will explore a fun and interesting topic as we share stories, sing songs, play games, and create a piece of art.
Limit:  18 preschoolers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.
 
Teeny Tiny Tales
Who:  Children ages 1-2 years
When:  Wednesdays - April 3rd, 10th, and 24th (No Storytime April 17th)
Two Sessions:   10:15am - 11:00am
                         11:15am - 12:00pm    
Where:  Children's Activity Room
What:  Join Mr. Monkey and Miss Meg for stories and songs during this literacy-based playgroup for young patrons. The morning will begin with a short book and group activity, followed by time to play with our new friends.
Limit:  18 toddlers per session. Registration is not required. Seats will be distributed on a first-come basis.
 
Babies & Books
Who:  1 week - 12 months
When:  Thursdays - April 4th, 11th, 25th (No Storytime April 18th)
Time:  10:00am - 10:30am
Where:  Little Readers Book Nook in the Children's Room
What:  Join Little Library Bunny and Miss Meg for nursery rhymes, songs, finger plays, and stories while introducing your baby to the wonders of language.
Stories and activities have been chosen for non-walking infants.
Come and join us at our monthly meeting on Wednesday, April 17, at 6:30 PM in the Trustees Room. We'd love to see you!
