LSW’s mission promotes lifelong learning, the ongoing, voluntary, and self-motivated pursuit of knowledge. This spring (and really all year long) I hope you have the opportunity to attend one of our lifelong learning events that will get your mind moving in different ways and connect you to new people. I am excited for all of LSW’s upcoming events and I hope you'll get excited, too, after reading this newsletter!

Unable to make it that night, but still want to support the LSW mission?
We could use your help with our Wine Pull and Gift Card Trees!
In the wine pull, attendees can purchase a numbered cork for $15 (or three for $40) and then take home the corresponding numbered bottle of wine.
Would you consider supporting LSW in this fundraiser and donate a bottle or two of wine (with a value of $15 or more)?
Or do you have unused gift cards sitting in a drawer that you would be willing to donate to our fundraiser?
For the gift card tree, attendees choose an envelope from the tree for $20 to receive a gift card of equal or greater value.
If you decide to help us with this, please drop off donations with Chad or Edwin at the downtown center prior to May 7

Welcome Our Newest Board Members!

Flavio Piwowarczyk
Born and raised in Brazil, I would have never imagined I would end up living and raising my family in the Milwaukee area! This was only possible due to the world of possibilities provided by education and the acquisition of literacy in a foreign language. LSW's mission and goals immediately resonated with me when I was first introduced to them as part of a volunteering day back in 2016. After that initial experience, my admiration for Literacy Services of Wisconsin, its volunteers and professionals only grew as I witnessed first-hand the impact of this amazing organization!
I am honored to join the LSW Board of Directors and excited to bring twenty years of experience in strategy development and execution both as a management consultant, as well as a corporate strategy, business development, and business transformation professional for leading industrial organizations. I have a B.Sc. degree in Industrial Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo, a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, and completed an MBA executive program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. I joined Johnson Controls four years ago where I currently work as Director of Strategy and Business Transformation for the Building Technologies & Solutions division. At Johnson Controls, I also serve as the President of our Hispanic Business Resource Group called UNIDOS, through which I had the chance to better know this vibrant, and at the same time underserved, community.
My wife and our three kids couldn’t be happier to call Wisconsin our home (despite the length of the winter!!!), and we love spending our spare time exploring Lake Country with our boat, attending sports and artistic events, and watching movies/playing board games in our basement.

I am excited to join the Board of Directors of Literary Services of Wisconsin because the organization is building stronger communities by providing adults with the tools they need to dictate their future.
I work as an attorney for Northwestern Mutual, where my work consists of providing legal support to Northwestern Mutual's variable annuity product line. I received my law degree from Marquette University Law School. I am also an alumni of Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri, where I received my B.A. and M.B.A. prior to law school. While at Rockhurst University, I was a member of the women's basketball team, and after graduation, I spent a year serving as the assistant women's basketball coach.
My husband Jose and I live in Whitefish Bay with our dog, Luna. We enjoy traveling to new destinations, listening to live music, and trying new restaurants. I devote time to coaching youth sports and teaching financial literacy in the local high schools through SecureFutures. I also currently serve on the Finance Committee for Notre Dame Middle School.
