Congratulations to the Class of 2019 - 100% Match! 

Congratulations to the class of 2019 on a 100% Match! This was our first class with a full pre-SOAP match. The soon-to-be graduates of the class of 2019 at the Schmidt College of Medicine joined thousands of medical students across the nation to celebrate Match Day on Friday, March 15 at the Live Oak Pavilion. The 55 members of the class of 2019 achieved a 100 percent match in this rite of passage to find out where they will be spending the next several years of medical training as residents.
 
"As you open your envelopes and discover where you will be conducting your next phase of training, please know that you will always be a part of the Schmidt College of Medicine family," said Phillip Boiselle, M.D., dean of the Schmidt College of Medicine.

Heroes in Medicine Award Winners

Congratulations to the 2019 Palm Beach County Medical Society Heroes in Medicine award winners from the Schmidt College of Medicine.  Mario Jacomino, M.D., associate professor of Pediatrics and director of first year and second year medical education, was selected as a winner in the Outreach Wellness Prevention Hero category by the Board of Directors of the Palm Beach County Medical Society Services. 
 
Second year medical student, Rachel Silverberg, won College/Medical Student Hero.
 
Additionally, the Pediatric Interest Group won the award for Best Organization, under the leadership of Dr. Jacomino.
 
The winners will be formally acknowledged at the Heroes in Medicine Awards Luncheon on Friday, May 17, at the Kravis Center's Cohen Pavilion.






WPTV Channel 5 Interviews Dr. Kantor

Daniel Kantor, M.D.
, program director of the Neurology residency program, was interviewed on WPTV Channel 5 on Tuesday, March 5, discussing the signs, symptoms and prevention of strokes following the death of actor Luke Perry.



TLJMS Second Annual Awards Luncheon

The T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society (TLJMS) of Palm Beach County hosted the second annual Awards Luncheon on Saturday, March 16. This event celebrated and recognized community service in healthcare. Dr. Roger L. Duncan, II, received the 2019 TLJMS Legacy Award and the 2019 Outstanding Community Samaritan Award from the Schmidt College of Medicine Student National Medical Association chapter. Congrats to all of the nominees and recipients.
 
The T. Leroy Jefferson Medical Society (TLJMS) is comprised of dedicated healthcare professionals working together to improve health and wellness, access to quality care, and academic and career opportunities for underserved populations in Palm Beach County.


Dr. Learman Presented Breakout Session at ACGME Annual Meeting 

Lee Learman, M.D., senior associate dean for Graduate Medical Education and Academic Affairs and professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Joan Meek, M.D., associate dean for Graduate Medical Education and professor at Florida State University, presented a breakout session at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Annual Meeting on Friday, March 8 in Orlando, FL. The session focused on the efforts of Florida medical schools to share strategies and tools for promoting wellness among medical students and residents.
 Dr. Learman highlighted the Schmidt College of Medicine's HealthFirst  Initiative and wellness-promoting activities developed by our residency programs.
 



FAU Inducted as Chapter of Association for Women in Science

Florida Atlantic University has announced that it was recently accepted as an official chapter of the Association for Women in Science (AWIS), a global network inspiring bold leadership, research and solutions that advance women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). FAU's Association for Women in Science chapter will be dedicated to promoting diversity as well as supporting women in scientific careers. Julie Servoss, M.D., associate dean for Diversity and Inclusion and associate professor of Gastroenterology, is co-chairing this chapter of AWIS. 



Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Banquet

The Faculty Club hosted the fourth annual Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honor Medical Society Banquet on Wednesday, February 20. The nine members were introduced by Michelle Schwartz, M.D. , assistant professor of Medicine and AOA councilor, Phillip Boiselle, M.D. , dean of the Schmidt College of Medicine, and the AOA faculty selection committee. The event included the traditional pinning ceremony and a dinner celebrating the inductees. Congratulations to the new members.
