OBN's CEO is Business Leader of the Year!
Many congratulations to our CEO, John Harris, for winning the 2019 'Business Leader of the Year Award' sponsored by HSBC, at the South and Vale Business Awards, 2019 ceremony on Friday 15 March.

Finalists for the South and Vale Business Awards gathered together on Friday 15 March for a glittering  business awards ceremony at Williams F1 Conference Centre in Grove.  Attended by representatives from 24 different organisations, local councillors and invited guests, the event was the first time both South Oxfordshire and Vale of White Horse District Councils' held the joint awards.

On presenting John's award, Cameron Rathwell, Area Director of Corporate Banking for Thames Valley, HSBC said "Since joining as CEO in 2015, through his leadership and perseverance, John Harris has transformed OBN into an organisation that offers life sciences companies real trajectory for growth. John is a true visionary, whose business sense, determination and passion to succeed has transformed OBN to the benefit of its employees, members, sponsors, patron and the entire life sciences sector.

John is delighted to have won this award and said "It's great to be recognised in such fashion and I'm very grateful to HSBC for this Award. More importantly though, it reflects the huge progress that OBN has made over the past few years, and the ever increasing value and benefit OBN generates for our Members and the Life Sciences community as a whole."

Congratulations again to John for winning this award, truly well deserved.

Interested in Antimicrobial Resistance?
AIMday in Antimicrobial Resistance is taking place on 4 July at the Blavatnik School of Government. This meeting is being led by the Medical Sciences Division and co-hosted by the NIHR Community Healthcare MedTech and In Vitro Diagnostics Co-
operative (MIC). The day will be kicked off with a talk from Professor Chris Butler (MIC director) presenting on AMR, diagnostics and community medicine.

An Academic Industry Meeting Day (AIMday) is an innovative networking event that allows external organisations to set the agenda and gain academic perspective into industry challenges. In return, academics gain insight into the needs and interests of industry and how these issues relate to their own research. The idea is simple: each AIMday has a specific theme and is centred around small group discussions based on a question posed by the external participant. This gives industry partners and researchers the assurance that the topics addressed will be of genuine interest, while also providing the opportunity to gain fresh insights, meet potential collaborators, and grow a network.

Companies and external organisations registered include:
  • Summit Therapeutics (hosting a session on new treatments for Pseudomonas and Acinetobacter infections)
  • metaLinear (hosting a session on best ways to get proteins into bacteria)
  • Innovate UK (hosting a session on funding gaps)
  • Academic Health Science Network for the North East and North Cumbria (hosting a session on the barriers to adoption of point of care tests)
  • And more to be confirmed...

The closing date for company registrations is Friday April 26th.
