March for Life 2019

Students, staff and parents represented Muskegon Catholic Central at March For Life!
Aesthetic Education

This past summer, MCC 4th grade teacher, Ms. Kissel, took a week-long training called Aesthetic Education through the MAISD. Local teachers, artists and musicians were trained how to bring more arts into the classroom. Once teachers are trained, they then work with the local artists and musicians to bring two aesthetic education experiences to their students. Ms. Kissel chose an art experience and a music experience. In November, her students worked with Mrs. DeHoog-Johnson to learn how to make collages out of unusual objects. They then went to the Muskegon Museum of Art to see an exhibit by Nat Rosales in which they saw sculptures a lot like their collages. In February, Ms. Kissel's students worked with Mrs. Bourdon to learn to create a musical composition on a homemade drum.
Chalkboard Project

Photographs from "The Chalkboard Project" were hung up in the senior hallway. Each student and staff who wanted to participant chose a word to be displayed on their chalkboard that is hurtful to them. After a week, the chalkboards were covered with a colorful sticky note where the 9th-12th grade student body had the opportunity to write empowering, positive words. This project brought awareness to our students and they are further understanding the ramifications of hurtful words.

Infant of Prague

The beautiful Infant of Prague statue was generously donated to our Crusader family from Brad and Victoria Woodard. Currently, the statue is on display in the Cioe Lobby for our guests to see. The statue will be placed on permanent display in the main hall of the elementary after Lent.

Our statue originated in Poland by a woman who inherited the Infant from her mother. When she received the statue, she hand stitched all of the clothes that you will see on the Infant. Be sure to watch the clothing change through the seasons-the robes are amazing and ornate.

The Infant of Prague has a deep and purposeful history that the Muskegon Catholic W.I.N.G.S. students plan to honor throughout the year. Whether that is the changing of his clothing, posting historical facts or just decorating the display cabinet.

We are excited and honored to be blessed with such an amazing piece of history!

Cross Cultural Learning

MCC 5th grade students shared a video call with year 6 pupils from Wellgate Primary School in England where they had the opportunity to ask and answer questions about the similarities and differences between life in England and the USA.

Pope John Paul II Mosaic

The MCC National Art Honor Society (NAHS) students painted this incredible mosaic that is displayed in our Nugent auditorium in honor of our school patron saint, John Paul II.

Students in NAHS work to promote art in the school and community through various activities and service projects. The NAHS students have worked diligently the past few months on this project and it is truly amazing!
National Honor Society Induction
Muskegon Catholic Central inducted 16 new members into the Bishop Francis J. Haas Chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) on March 19th. The chapter has 25 existing members from the Junior and Senior classes.

The National Honor Society is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to recognize those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership and character.

At graduation, the members wear a stole indicating their acceptance into the NHS.
