LITTLE ROCK, Ark.
(March 18, 2020) –
World Services for the Blind
(WSB) is in the midst of a $3 million capital campaign to fund campus renovations. Funds raised will cover the costs of improvements to the existing 68,114 square-feet facilities.
The complex, located at 2811 Fair Park Boulevard, includes six two-story buildings. The campaign will fund the replacement of heating and cooling systems, windows, weatherproof buildings and pay for the installation of distance-learning technology and new lighting.
In January, The Mabee Foundation awarded a $600,000 challenge grant toward WSB's capital campaign for campus improvements.
“We are extremely grateful for the generosity of the Mabee Foundation and the opportunities they have provided us to continue our Capital Campaign, but now we need the community to help us meet this challenge,” says CEO and President of World Services for the Blind, Sharon Giovinazzo.
World Services for the Blind, founded in Little Rock, Ark. in 1947, is one of the longest existing nonprofits in the state. Their mission is to lead adults with visual disabilities to long-term, financial independence by offering life skills and career training programs. WSB is the most comprehensive rehabilitation center for people who are blind or visually impaired.
"World Services for the Blind is committed to ensuring adults with visual impairment do not limit their potential to achieving an independent lifestyle because of their disability," said Sharon Giovinazzo, WSB president and CEO. "More than 70% of adults who are blind or visually impaired are unemployed. It is our goal to empower individuals in this community with life skills, career training and to lower that staggering unemployment rate."
