DESIGN FACT
THE MORRIS CHAIR - where timeless design and comfort unite
The Morris Chair is an early type of recliner that originated in Essex, England in the late 1860’s. Designed by Ephraim Colman, who devised a plan to build a chair with an adjustable, reclining back and deeply cushioned seat, Colman’s design was quickly adapted for production by the William Morris Company, and would become wildly popular and copied (even today) by designers seeking a stylish option for clients who crave comfort.

|
Offered for Sale: Antique Morris Chairs in tiger oak, with tall padded backs and seats flanked by carved spool turned sides, each raised on scrolled feet to original casters, Circa 19
th
century, good condition.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST DINING TABLE
It goes without saying that the best dining table is one that works for your budget and style, and one that will last for generations. Here are a few more tips to consider…
- Don’t get caught up in design trends; keep it simple and sturdy with solid construction. Look for well made over flashy, with a finish that will withstand heavy use and show little wear.
- If your budget permits, choose solid wood over veneer every time. It’s a “pay now or pay later” concept. Solid wood is more durable, easier to repair or refinish, and frankly it just looks better.

FEATURED DINING ROOM

Each piece is expertly carved in solid tiger oak from the Victorian era (1837 - 1901) and is in meticulous condition. Each is available for immediate purchase. Provenance: Part of the historic Willemsen Dairy estate of fine antiques and collectibles.

FURNITURE AS ART...
Tiger Oak
|
|
|
Tiger Oak is produced by milling a board along its radius into quarters - called “quarter sawing” - at an unusually steep 60 to 90 degree angle to the growth rings of the tree, resulting in finished wood (not only oak!) with a distinctive stippled, flecked grain appearance. It is often used in high quality furniture or any place where a striking appearance is valued. While the yield is lower than normal milling, the resulting lumber is stronger and warp resistant. It is also called “quarter sawn oak” and can be recognized by its curving parallel “stripes,” not unlike those of a tiger.

THE ESTATE SALE PARADIGM - ENRICH YOUR HOME WITH SOME HISTORY, THE “RECOMMERCE” WAY
The world of retail is changing radically, not just toward online sales, but toward a resale, or “recommerce,” model - for a long list of reasons!
|
|
As we know, shopping at local and small, family-owned businesses reinvests revenue and tax money right back into our own community, where it is needed now more than ever. But not all businesses deal in newly manufactured merchandise. Think consignment shops, antique dealers, used book stores, charity shops, and estate sales! “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle” takes on a whole new meaning as locals needing to liquidate goods are connected - via local entrepreneurs - with locals wishing to buy. It’s a huge plus, too, that the resulting carbon footprint is very small, and that our wonderful / practical / unusual treasures become not waste, but another person’s valued possession. This growing retail trend has found a receptive audience in modern shoppers and is having a significant impact on major national retailers of new, mass produced goods (think ThredUp or 1stDibs, etc – some now forming test partnerships with national brick-and-mortar chains.)

INVESTING IN COLLECTIBLES
YES OR NO?
Our advice might surprise you given that selling collectibles is routine at Treasured Estates . . .
The ability to combine personal passions or hobbies with the potential growth of one’s net worth certainly holds a lot of appeal. However, investing in collectibles the same way one would invest in stocks or bonds may not be as seamless or lucrative.
We have put together our best advice for those interested in holding or acquiring significant collectible assets.
BUY WHAT YOU LIKE AND SEE WHERE THE SECONDARY MARKET GOES
|
|
Collectors should find more value in the joy of collecting rather than monetizing items at some future time. Simply stated, buy what you like. Any monetary gain from collectibles should be viewed as icing on the cake, a bonus that serves as validation of the collector’s good taste and keen eye.
