Eastman Institute For Oral Health, University of Rochester First Tumor Removal, Immediate Reconstruction and Dental Rehabilitation
In a first-of-its-kind for the University of Rochester Medical Center and Upstate New York, experts from four disciplines worked together to perform in one day a procedure that previously would have taken separate procedures over several months to a year. Columbia University College of Dental Medicine: Center for Dental and Craniofacial Research Opens at Columbia
Uniting investigators in dental medicine, bioengineering, data science, and other fields, Columbia University's Center for Dental and Craniofacial Research (CDCR) recently launched as a resource for accelerating scientific discovery and therapy development in oral and craniofacial health. A celebration on Jan. 30, 2020, hosted by center director Gordana Vunjak-Novakovic, PhD, University Professor and the Mikati Foundation Professor of Biomedical Engineering, welcomed colleagues from across the University to mark the opening of the CDCR

Exposing teeth to excessive fluoride alters calcium signaling, mitochondrial function, and gene expression in the cells forming tooth enamel-a novel explanation for how dental fluorosis, a condition caused by overexposure to fluoride during childhood, arises. The study, led by researchers at NYU College of Dentistry, is published in Science Signaling.

NYU Dentistry: Vaping Alters the Oral Microbiome and Increases the Risk for Infection, Finds a Study by Drs. Deepak Saxena and Xin Li
Using e-cigarettes alters the mouth's microbiome-the community of bacteria and other microorganisms-and makes users more prone to inflammation and infection, finds a new study led by researchers at NYU College of Dentistry.
The study-published in iScience, a Cell Press journal-is the first to demonstrate that vaping changes the oral microbiome and adds to our limited understanding of the safety profile of e-cigarettes.

Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College Partners with Local Schools to Host 3rd Annual Give Kids a Smile! Day
The tooth fairy, puppets, face-painting, balloons and games brought smiles to more than 50 local school-aged children and their families at Touro Dental Health's third annual Give Kids A Smile! Day. The event, organized each year by students from Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM), aims to improve oral health and access to care for the local community's most vulnerable patients.

Stony Brook Volunteers Support Back-to-Back Record-Breaking Give Kids A Smile Events
Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine students and faculty kicked off National Children's Dental Health Month by attending Give Kids A Smile events organized by local dental organizations, Nassau County Dental Society and Suffolk County Dental Society. Children that participated from Long Island communities were provided with free dental screenings, cleanings, and fluoride treatments.

Touro College of Dental Medicine at New York Medical College Breaks Ground on New Pediatric Dental Practice
Touro Dental Health is breaking new ground in more ways than one.
The 109-chair dental teaching practice located at the Touro College of Dental Medicine (TCDM) held a groundbreaking ceremony on February 19 to kick off the construction of the new 3,000 square-foot pediatric facility. TCDM is anticipating that the clinic will open this summer. The event also celebrated its pediatric dental leadership, with the appointments of Dr. Carla Tornatore as Director of Pediatric Dentistry and Dr. Shiri Greenberg, as Clinical Practice Leader of Pediatric Dentistry
