The Relationship Group: The "Burden of Correction" in Partner Choice *
11:45 AM to 1:00 PM

Our choice of a romantic partner is determined by the past. More specifically, we select a new partner who we believe and hope will "correct" what went wrong in our previous relationships. At times this can actually be an effective strategy that enables us to form a new relationship with a person who ultimately may be a better partner. However, often the "burden of correction" projected onto our new partner fails to correct anything and may even backfire, resulting in more intense problematic relationship issues and sabotaging the potential of this new bond.  In the next meeting of the Relationship Group on Saturday, February 2, 2019 (11:45 AM to 1:00 PM) , we will explore the motive to correct in our romantic relationships and consider ways to support the development of a new relationship unencumbered by previous failed relationships.
The Men's Group: Fathering Throughout the Son's Life: The "Good Enough" Father *
10:15 to 11:30 AM
A renowned author, psychoanalyst, and expert on male psychology, Michael Diamond has published an intriguing paper that describes his notion of the "good enough" father. The character and ingredients of the "good enough" mother, originally conceived by the British psychoanalyst D.W. Winnicott, have been widely discussed but a similar perspective has not been applied to fathers until Diamond. Diamond's characterization of the successful father is organized into 12 key role functions that align to the unique challenges the son confronts as he develops. In the next meeting of the Men's Group on Saturday, February 2, 2019 (10:15 to 11:30 AM) , we will discuss Diamond's ideas about the "good enough" father and his central argument that, ideally, the father is both "real" for and "internalized" by the son, the latter of which allows the son to draw from the character of the father residing within him.
The Dynamic Psychotherapy Process Group *
 1:15 to 2:30 PM
This therapy group utilizes the emerging dynamics among group members, and between the group members and facilitator, as a basis from which to examine one's characteristic ways of thinking, feeling, and relating to others.  Our next group session will be on Saturday, February 2, 2019 (1:15 to 2:30 PM) at the Laguna Hills office location.
