Westshore Alliance Elects New Leadership
Guiding the Westshore Alliance are business leaders from a wide spectrum of Tampa's most important companies and organizations. These key players work together to determine the strategic plan the Alliance will follow to achieve its mission. The 2019 Board, Officers and Executive Committee were elected at the Annual Meeting, and outgoing President Jay Botsch passed the gavel to 2019 President Julie Harris Herndon. Thank you to the Board of Directors, both past and present, for your service and advancement of the Alliance's mission to promote, shape future growth and foster economic prosperity of the Westshore District.
Shaping Westshore's Future
Outgoing President Jay Botsch shared updates on Alliance priorities and initiatives including:
  • Utilizing data from the inaugural Westshore District Worker and Resident Survey to gain stronger insights on perceptions and demographics of Westshore's nearly 100,000 workers and 15,000 residents
  • Developing the Westshore Transportation Action Plan to serve as a blueprint for addressing the mobility needs of our Westshore community. More than 100 transportation projects are included in the plan, and pedestrian improvements account for more than 60% of these projects.
  • Planning for the next generation of Alliance leadership through the new "Explore Westshore" leadership development and board mentorship program, as well as implementing bylaw changes to reduce board, executive committee and office terms from two years to one to allow more members the opportunity to step into future leadership and board positions.
Looking Ahead: 2019 Westshore Alliance Priorities
Incoming President Julie Harris Herndon shared Alliance priorities for the coming year, which include:
  • Advocating for transportation project funding that will result in improved traffic flow in and out of Westshore, better traffic circulation within the District, and more sidewalks throughout Westshore.
  • Cultivating relationships with the City of Tampa's new administration to help ensure Westshore's continued economic vitality.
  • Continuing to enhance member engagement and preparing the Alliance's next generation of leadership. This includes more networking opportunities for Alliance members, revamping the Ambassador program, and launching a New Member Orientation program.

Westshore District: 2018 Year in Review
Executive Director Ann Kulig presented updates on a number of Alliance initiatives in the areas of transportation, member programming, public safety, and District marketing. Recent District business and development activities were also highlighted. Review District highlights and Alliance accomplishments in the 2018 Year in Review Report.
Telling Westshore's Story
Westshore has evolved from a business district to a vibrant, diverse community and booming neighborhood. Work began last year with creative services firm Trickey Jennus on the creation of a new visual identity to reflect today's Westshore District. The first step in this process is a new District logo, which debuted at the Annual Meeting.

Thank you to the Alliance Executive Committee for their leadership on this initiative, and to those board members and Westshore stakeholders who provided valuable input on this project. We are excited to activate the new logo in all that we do to promote Westshore, and we look forward to sharing new stories this year about those who work and live in Tampa's vibrant Westshore District.
