LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
On Saturday, June 5 AHAI held its Annual Presidents' Meeting. Congratulations to the (4) four incumbent members who were reelected, Gino Cavallini, Gregg Chudacoff, Anita Lichterman and Keri Zschach, and a shout out to AHAI's newest board member, Bob Apter. We welcome him aboard and look forward to working with him as we begin our COVID-free 2021-2022 hockey season.

AHAI has also reorganized its rules and added them to our newly designed website under the "Rules/Regs" tab on the top navigation bar. If you have not seen AHAI's updated website, please check it out. Gretchen Cockey and JJ O'Connor have made it mobile responsive and more user friendly.

Illinois is currently in Phase 5, and we expect to remain there with high hopes to have a normal 2021-22 season.

Jim Smith stepped down as president of USA Hockey; his successor is Mike Trimboli. We will miss Jim but look forward to working with Mike. JJ O'Connor has stepped down as USA Hockey's Disabled Hockey Section Chair. He is succeeded by Amy Lapoe an Illinois transplant now living in Texas.

As we begin our 2021-2022 season, we are excited to once again have a season we can all enjoy. Before we know it conditioning camps will begin and then tryouts. Have a safe and healthy summer. See you at the rink!

Kevin Bolger
AHAI President

Playing Rules, Diversity, Growth, Olympics/Paralympics Highlight Four-Day USA Hockey Annual Congress
USA Hockey's four-day virtual Annual Congress concluded Saturday (June 12) with the election of Mike Trimboli (Massena, N.Y.) as the organization's new president; the formalization of the playing rules for the next four seasons (2021-25); and a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, growth and the upcoming Olympics/Paralympics.

"It was a very productive Annual Congress," said Pat Kelleher, executive director of USA Hockey. "While the pandemic has presented many challenges for us, it's been inspiring to see the collaboration across all levels of our organization  As we invite everyone back to the sport and advance efforts to become more diverse, we will take advantage of the visibility presented in this upcoming Olympic and Paralympic year to grow hockey.

"We welcome Mike Trimboli as our new president and all of our newly elected and re-elected volunteers. On behalf of everyone involved in hockey in our country, I'd also like to thank both Ron DeGregorio and Jim Smith, titans of our organization who have been been at the forefront of building the strong foundation that we enjoy today. Both have served in just about every capacity imaginable within USA Hockey, and while they've elected to step aside, we know they'll still continue to contribute to the sport." READ MORE>>

Adult Member of the Year Emil Ludy (Wheaton, Ill.) Still "Having a Good Time All the Time" in Hockey
By Greg Bates, Special to USA Hockey - However, two years ago when he played for the United States team against Canada in the annual Canada 150 Cup, Ludy was the second-youngest player on the team. The team is comprised of players who are over 80 years old or turn 80 that year. As the second-youngest player on the team, the 79-year-old Ludy had a little extra pep in his step.

That's saying a lot, because Ludy has the energy level of a 25-year-old. Now a spry 81 years young, Ludy lets hockey fuel his everyday life. He still skates a couple times a week during the winter and organizes multiple teams to compete in as many USA Hockey tournaments around the country as possible. READ MORE>>

IHOA NEWS & INFORMATION
Attention Officials: Important Information from IHOA for the 2021-2022 Season
The 2021-2022 hockey season is fast approaching and when the hockey season begins it is anticipated that youth and adult games will be USA Hockey sanctioned with no Illinois Department of Public Health restrictions. The only way to work sanctioned games is to be completely registered.

USA Hockey registration is now open and IHOA registration will begin on July 6th. Seminar formats are currently being worked on and will be announced soon. It will be in your best interest to have your seminars and USA Hockey requirements completed as soon as possible. Therefore when competitive play begins, you will be ready to hit the ice skating. Let us look forward to a healthy and great hockey season.
Ask the Official by Dave Zednik
QUESTION: An attacking player in the attacking zone bats the puck with his hand on net. After hitting the goalie, it drops to the crease and the goalie covers the puck. Where is the ensuing face-off location? Rule 621 for high-sticking brings the face off all the way down for this similar action but what about a hand pass? ANSWER>>

QUESTION: During play, Team A is substituting players while the puck is in front of their bench. A Team A player exits the ice at the center ice side of the bench. Another Team A player at the other end of the bench is about to jump on the ice and reaches over the boards and passes the puck to a teammate already on the ice. Since this player was about to (and did subsequently) jump on the ice, and the player he was substituting for was already off the ice, is this a legal play? ANSWER>>
