Top 3 tips to protect your student from financial fraud
Canadian and international students are sometimes the targets of fraudulent schemes; here are the top 3 tips to protect your student from financial fraud:

1. Students should not transfer money or provide personal information to requests from unsolicited phone calls, text messages, or emails.

2. If your student is feeling pressured into providing personal information, which could lead to  identity theft , they can WAIT. Students have the right to take their time and confirm the requester’s credibility.

3. Remember, your student can stop any fraud at any time by hanging up, or not replying to or clicking on links in suspicious emails.

Queen’s University will never contact students on behalf of Immigration Canada or the CRA to request an immediate transfer of funds.

If your student suspects they may have been the victim of fraud, please have them contact   Kingston Police  to file a report.
