Celebrating our Musicians

The first week of December brought with it the wonderful sounds of band and orchestra at Washburne.  Students have been practicing for months and their hard work was evident on Tuesday and Thursday evening as they performed for parents and friends.

Music education is so important to educating the whole child. It is truly a privilege to work in a district that values a musical education. I love seeing our students in this environment, marvel at their talents, and watch them develop a sense of appreciation for hard work and practice. Hats off to Mr. Vowles, Mr. Chester, and Ms. Nussbaum for their hard work and planning.

What a great way to kick off December.

Sincerely,

Andrew Fenton Ed.D., Principal
Ben Horwitz, Assistant Principal

Progress Report Update

As our student information system (SIS), PowerSchool, evolves, so do our practices.  Two years ago, we moved the class placement process to be viewed online via the PowerSchool Parent Portal.  This year, progress reports will be accessed via the same portal.

You will use the same link, username, and password that you used to access your child's placement. Once progress reports/proficiency levels are finalized, we will archive the reports and post them on the portal for parents to view and/or print on their own.

Progress reports will be available for trimester one on Friday, December 13th  in the afternoon. We will notify you when they are available.

You can see step-by-step directions for how to access progress reports using this link .

If you have any questions, please reach out to
parentportal@winnetka36.org.

Window to Washburne

Welcome to Window to Washburne!  Each week, we will be highlighting some of the learning taking place in one of our classrooms.

Throughout trimester one, our 7th graders have been learning about different religions in order to have a greater understanding of this important topic.  This past Wednesday, our students were able to apply their learning by visiting religious centers around the area.

Over the course of a busy day, students visited North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, the Muslim Community Center in Morton Grove, the Medidation Center of Chicago, and Winnetka Presbyterian Church.  At each site, students were able to ask questions and learn from religious leaders.

Overall, our students walked away with a more complete picture and a greater understanding of diverse religions.

Kudos to Ms. Bertacchi, Mr. Rice, Mr. Senechal, and Ms. Zuehl for leading such a wonderful field trip.

Intramural Basketball

The Intramural Basketball Program is set to begin on Saturday, December 7 from 12:00-2:00 in the Washburne Gyms.  This is a program open to all 7th and 8th grade students who enjoy playing basketball. This house league program will start with two weeks of team formations (Dec 7 and 14), then will continue in the New Year with 1 hour games starting at either 12:00 or 1:00.  Participation is not required every weekend, however, in order to participate in the end of the season tournament, a student needs to have played with their team for at least half of the games.

Registration for this program is available on the   Athletics website .  We will also need a copy of the medical clearance form (found on the website) or a copy of a recent physical within a year.

If you have any questions, please contact Andy Becker at Andybecker@winnetka36.org.

Recommendation Form Protocol

Throughout the school year, our teachers and administrators may be asked to complete a recommendation form for families considering private schools or summer programs.  As each institution's forms vary in the nature of information requested, we have moved to a common form that our Winnetka teachers and administrators will complete for submission to any authorized outside educational institution.

Upon request for a feedback form, Winnetka staff will respond within ten business days. In the interest of maintaining appropriate confidentiality and consistency, our District employees will only complete this form, which may be attached to a student's application to any outside educational institution. You may find the form by  clicking here.
