Student Learning Styles
There is a great diversity of learning styles in any single class. Learning more about patterns of learning styles provides helpful information in designing instruction and adjusting the class for those students that become discouraged quickly.
There may be educators that do not think of learning styles and student differences when planning a lesson. You do not need to be up on all the research in determining how students learn.Want to learn more about learning styles but are pressed for time? There are many web based learning style inventory surveys available that be shared with students as a fun interactive class lesson.
Some students will be more comfortable with theories and abstractions; others with facts and others prefer active learning. Identifying how a specific group of students learn and adjusting your lesson format, teaching strategies and techniques will increase student interaction. The goal is to improve educational outcomes. Increasing involvement for students that may be discouraged due to challenges such as time management, self-motivation and skill set development can be improved with positive reinforcement. Create activities and lessons that increase student participation, student self esteem and generates excitement in the classroom.
Start by introducing a variety using multimedia technology, instructional activities, class discussions, and skill assessments that encourage student interaction. There are many approaches in designing learning environments that respond more effectively to the needs of students. Students interacting in a learning experience that reaffirms their perception of the learning process and their ability to succeed leads to student satisfaction and retention.
Educators that incorporate techniques in the classroom that promote skill development and the acquisition of knowledge for each student create a positive interaction for the discouraged student. It is important to remember that educators represent the school through their classroom interactions with every student.
I look forward to working with schools and answering any questions on the National Esthetician Certification program.
