Drawing
inspiration from the world around her, Sylvie's work with light and landscape -- not to mention her expressive animal characters -- pull her audience into layers of rich and engaging detail.
Here are a few words from Sylvie about her process:
"
I work mostly with digital paint, yet I always sketch on paper first using ink or pencils.
I like to find references for moods, shapes and colors. I am always inspired by real life. Observation is key.
After the draft process on paper, I choose the nicest composition and make rough color paintings with photoshop to find the best color mood.
Then, I have the pleasure to go into details, playing with textures, lines and colors."
After teaching for a few years, Sylvie followed her dream of working in animation. She became a full-time color artist for European studios, working and living in Berlin and Paris, as well as contributing to productions in Vancouver. She eventually moved back to Belgium, working remotely for animation films and TV series while raising her two kids and founding Les Skewies with her husband, a colorful brand of funny accessories for kids.
Sylvie now focuses on her work as an independent artist and illustrator from her home base in Belgium. Continuing to work as a concept artist and art director in animation, she loves to explore light, color, and nature in her illustration, highlighting the simplicity and poetry within everyday life.
Sylvie is very interested in illustrating children's picture books, and middle grade and young adult covers. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for this talented artist!
