Take the Plastic Pledge!
Reduce your single-use plastic habits. Try changing one behavior for a month. Take our Plastic Pledge and choose an action. Then after 30 days, let us know if you stuck with it or what was challenging about it.
Eurythenes plasticus, a newly discovered species of amphipod, was named for the pieces of PET (#1) plastic that were found in its gut. The approximately two-inch long, shrimp-like animal was caught at a depth of 20,000 feet in the Pacific Ocean's Mariana Trench. Read the complete article here .

GARBAGE and RECYCLING PRESENTATION
Saturday, March 28*
10am-noon
Poulsbo City Hall Council Chambers
(*Keep apprised of potential postponement on the ZW website .)

If you missed the presentation on recycling, landfill and composting this past summer at Bainbridge City Hall, this program will provide much of the same information.

Sponsored by the League of Women Voters, the line-up includes moderator Lori Cloutier, leader of the Trash Talk Task Force of the Poulsbo Rotary Club; Eirik O'Neal, education and outreach coordinator for Kitsap Solid Waste; Karissa Jones, education and outreach associate for Waste Management (Bainbridge Disposal's counterpart in Poulsbo); and Aaron Rebmann, Waste Management's Olympic View Transfer Station's operations manager. (BI garbage gets dumped at OVTS before heading for the landfill in Oregon.)

Panelists will discuss what happens to our garbage now and what they expect to happen in the future. They will also provide tips for becoming better recyclers and for reducing waste that goes to the landfill.
