Inspire the 4-H members – We Need Leaders

We have several dates held for project workshops. We would love to have a workshop on record books, computers, rocketry, public speaking, leather-craft or any other projects that members show an interest.

If you are a leader that is interested in hosting a project workshop, please contact the Extension Office.

Hunter Education Class

What: Internet Conclusion Class

When: Saturday March 30th from noon-6:00 PM

Where: Colorado Parks and Wildlife 13787 US-85, Littleton, CO 80125.

There will be a limit of 20 students so early registration is important.

Students must complete the online course prior to this conclusion class. The online course will cost $24.50 and registration is at the link below.

If you are interested enrolling in the conclusion class, please contact Eric Harper at [email protected].

Hunter Safety Card is required for all shooting sports members. These must be uploaded in 4Honline by April 15, 2019.

Swine Education Session

Nutrition, Health, Fair, & Tagging

March 9 - 9:30 AM

The next Swine Educational Session will cover nutrition, health, fair registration and tagging. It will be held Saturday, March 9 ^th at 9:30 AM at the CSU Extension Office Basement Conference Room.

This session will go a little longer than previous, as there are a number of topics to be covered.

Attached you will find a spreadsheet that will help track the weight of the exhibitor’s pigs and project their weight up to fair. This will help them make necessary feed adjustments. The participants are welcome to bring a laptop or iPad if they would like to follow along as we go through the spread sheet

2019 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training Schedule

The disciplines offered at each training are also listed below. No RSO trainings will be held in conjunction with the 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Trainings this spring.

Registrations via 4HOnline will open approximately 6 weeks prior to the start of each training. 4-H volunteers must be approved, enrolled and active in 4HOnline prior to registering for the trainings. Do not delay the volunteer enrollment or re-enrollment process.

Rabbit and Cavy Members

If any 4-H kids are wanting to add rabbits and/or guinea pigs to their project list, the upcoming ARBA show is March 1 & 2 at Douglas County Fairgrounds.

This would be great opportunity to pick up your new project before the April 1 deadline.

Youth must be enrolled in the Beef Projects (market and breeding) by 11:59 PM on March 1. Breeding Beef ID forms must be uploaded in 4honline by March 2 or brought to Market Steer Tagging and Weigh-In.

MARKET STEER TAGGING AND WEIGH-IN

Saturday, March 2 ^nd 9:00 AM

Douglas County Fairgrounds

All market steers must be tagged and weighed in on this date. Make sure ALL brand papers are in youth’s name and are brought with you on March 2.

Animal Care and Housing Forms are due at tag in if your animal is not housed at your home.

Community Service Opportunity

When: April 13 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM,

What: Front Range Church will be hosting an Easter egg hunt

Where: Douglas County High School.

Why: A petting zoo and they are allowing 4-H to have an opportunity to showcase some of our animals: rabbits, goats, sheep, calves, pigs

I would also need to borrow some stock panels if anyone has some they would be willing to let us use. Please let Amanda Valencia know if this is something you are interested in. You can call or text her at 916-742-0086. Please get back to her no later than Friday March 29.

Again this is a great opportunity to showcase the 4-H program and get hours for community service as well.

4-H School Scholarships Available

Attention High School Seniors!!!!!

4-H scholarships are now available! Applications, transcripts and letters of recommendation can all be dropped off at the Extension office any time before the stated deadline. Please read through the entire application so you do not miss an important component. It is your responsibility to have complete and accurate applications. All parts of the application must be turned in on time, so please pay close attention to deadlines. Keep track of your references and follow up with them to make sure they provide your references on time. If our office is closed, there is a slot in the door where your application can be dropped off.
