Taking the Love of Christ
...to the Children of Guatemala
On January 16 th , a Caring Partners International (CPI) medical mission team returned from Guatemala following a time of service with the Genesaret Church, located in Guatemala City. CPI was blessed to bring a team of students, chaperones, and parents from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy to minister to the children and community of the Genesaret Church.

During their time in Guatemala, the CPI/CHCA mission team hosted a party for all the children currently enrolled in CPI’s TLC Sponsorship Program. 2018 saw some major changes to the TLC Program – sponsorship dollars now go directly to the Genesaret Church to host an after-school program which addresses the mental, physical, and spiritual health of each child. The children attending the Program receive a nutritious meal, educational tutoring, and Biblical training. Teens and young adults from the Genesaret Church serve as teachers and volunteers, assisting the children in their secular and spiritual education. Jose Alvarez, a graduate of the TLC Program and a young leader in the Genesaret Church, is the Program Administrator.

Prior to the party, many of the TLC children participated in a skit for the CPI/CHCA mission team, revolving around the scriptures found in the Gospel of Matthew about ministering to “the least of these”. Edgar, one young boy in the Program, quoted all the Books of the Bible. And Yazury, a young girl of 6, blessed the group with a prayer in her native Mayan language, Kaqchikel. Program Administrator Jose thanked CPI and its Sponsors for their support of the Program, sharing the wonderful news that all 51 children participating in the new Program had passed their grade in school, a tremendous accomplishment in a country where many children don’t even have the opportunity to receive a formal education!

Carlos the Clown and the CHCA students spent some time entertaining the kids with fun and games, and then each TLC child received a Backpack full of school supplies, toys, and toiletry products. The Backpacks and toiletry products were provided through CPI donors WestCMR & M&S Flooring, and also TLC Program funds. The school supplies were generously donated and packed by the CHCA students as their donation to the children. What a thrill it was for the entire team to see the happy faces of the kids as they opened up their new Backpacks!

Later that same day, the entire CPI/CHCA team provided healthcare to the TLC children and their families. And the next two days saw the mission team and the Genesaret Church reach out to minister to the entire community through its Evangelism Through Medicine clinic. All told, 480 patients were treated, and 52 made decisions for Jesus Christ, and are now connected with the ministry outreach of the Genesaret Church. To God be the glory – great things He has done!

Would You Become a TLC Program Sponsor?
by Rhonda Reed, CPI Missionary & Executive Director

I came back from Guatemala with a renewed passion for CPI’s TLC Program. This new version of the Program – conducting an after-school ministry at the Genesaret Church – is truly reaching “the least of these” in Zone 6 of Guatemala City. The joy in each child’s face during the party and the program activities was so evident, and it is my prayer that Pastor Hernandez and his team can grow the Program even more as they rescue children from the gangs and violence so prevalent in their neighborhoods.

The requested donation for Program Sponsorship is $30.00 per month. Three times a year, each Sponsor will receive an update from our Administrator, Jose Alvarez, and a thank you letter from a participating child. You can make an eternal difference in a young child’s life – please sponsor today! Contact me at r.reed@caringpartners.org or sign up directly via our website at TLC Sponsorship and put "TLC" in the Comment Box.
