March 2019

Age-Friendly Englewood is a community-wide project that is working
to ensure that residents of Englewood can age-in-place
in their homes and in the community with dignity and independence.
Age-Friendly Englewood seeks to help the community
become
more livable for people of all ages,
with particular attention
to the rapidly growing number of older adults.

An age-friendly community is one that is a great place
to grow up and grow old.

Retirement Life Planning
April 4 at Englewood Library

Age-Friendly Englewood will present a program on retirement life planning and career transition at the Englewood Public Library, 31 Engle Street, on Thursday, April 4 at 7:00 PM.

Entitled Considering What's Next: (Re)Defining Retirement, this program is designed for empty nesters, baby boomers and others considering life on the other side of 50. How do we define and design this stage of our lives? Is traditional retirement in our future? How do we want to combine and balance work, life and leisure? What factors should we be considering?

The presenter will be Rosemary Byrne, long-time Englewood resident who is a lawyer turned life coach.  The presentation is free and open to the public.

Plan to Stay Safe, Mobile,
and Independent

Make a plan today to stay safe, mobile, and independent tomorrow.  How would you get to the grocery store if you suddenly found yourself unable to drive? Would you be able to get to doctor appointments, social engagements, or church/temple? Does your community have reliable public transportation or rideshare services?

Mobility is the ability to get where you want to go, when you want to go there. Read more here.
Scams to Watch Out for in 2019
It is estimated that older adults lose billions of dollars to scammers each year. But there is good news! Last year the Federal Trade Commission noted that older consumers are more likely to report they've been victimized by financial exploitation than their younger counterparts.  Click here to learn about three scams that are notably making the rounds right now.

From Forbes:

Aging Populations: A Blessing for Business

The global aging population will encompass more than one in five human beings by mid-century, rising from 900 million in 2015 to 2.1 billion in 2050, according to the World Health Organization.
As demography shifts, spiraling health costs and questions about the adequacy of public and private pension programs and retirement funds rightly stir concerns. Those issues must be addressed, of course, but there is a silver lining.   Increasing longevity has spurred unprecedented economic growth and new opportunities for personal fulfillment.
