Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)
District proactively monitoring the situation and working with health partners.

Lake Park High School continues to closely monitor the situation involving the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and is working in coordination with county, state and federal health authorities. The health and safety of Lancer students, staff and families is a top priority for the District. Our decision making will demonstrate an abundance of caution to protect everyone's health and well being.

Absenteeism - Students Should Stay Home When Sick!
Attendance East: (630) 295-5232 / Attendance West: (630) 295-5332
When reporting an absence for your child, remember to spell your student's name and provide their ID number. Indicate why your student is absent, leaving school early, or arriving late. If your student is absent due to a fever above 100 degrees or other respiratory symptoms such as coughing or shortness of breath, please provide that information as well. Remember to obtain a note from the doctor's office if your student visits a doctor.

Travel - Students and Staff
While the district monitors travel advisories issued through the U.S. Department of State as it relates to upcoming international travel for Lancer student activities and curricular purposes, we must also consider students and staff traveling during spring break. Lancers returning from travel to areas with community spread of COVID-19 must follow guidance they have received from health officials. COVID-19 information for travel is updated regularly on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website .

The guidance specifically states that s taff or students who have traveled to a location with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 should stay home for 14 days after their return date.

Prevention
It is important to understand that we all play a role in reducing the likelihood of a novel coronavirus outbreak in our school community. Remember to practice good habits, including:
  • Stay home when you are sick. (must be free of fever and vomiting for 24 hours without the use of medication before returning to school)
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash and wash your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Cleaning Procedures
Lake Park's custodial staff continues to be diligent with cleaning practices; this includes daily cleaning and disinfecting with special attention given to "hot spots" (door knobs, buttons, handles, tables in the cafe, etc.)

Current guidance from the Illinois Department of Public Health states, "At this time, no special sanitizing processes beyond routine cleaning are necessary or recommended to slow the spread of respiratory illness."

SCREENAGERS:
Growing Up in the Digital Age, a documentary about the biggest parenting issue of our time.

Are you watching kids scroll through life, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time - friction she knew all too well.

The SCREENAGERS documentary reveals how tech time impacts kids' development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world (social media, video games and internet addiction) and find balance.

Invest in Lancers through the INCubatorEDU Program
Lake Park's Educational Foundation is a proud investment partner in this opportunity.

Lake Park will launch the INCubator program for the 2020-2021 school year. In the INCubator course, students engage in hands-on, entrepreneurial learning by developing a business of their own. The year-long course allows students to learn all aspects of creating a business, which culminates in presenting their business to a "shark tank" panel. The Lake Park Educational Foundation is recruiting classroom coaches, mentors, donors and sponsors to bring the program to life.

Learn more at www.lphs.org/INCubator. An informational meeting will be hosted on Thursday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Park West Campus for those interested in learning more about volunteer and sponsorship opportunities. To RSVP for the March 19 meeting, please email Dan Colucci or Kevin Jones.
