Greetings!
Spring is just around the corner...right?! We're heard from a lot of you this past month that February was extra challenging--with a countless number of snow days, cold temperatures, and shoveling related aches and pains. This time of year is often challenging, but as March arrives and daylight extends beyond the dinner hour, we must remember:
"In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an INVINCIBLE SUMMER."
{Albert Camus}
We found ourselves reflecting on this a lot at the studio in the past weeks. What does it mean to you?
We are excited to help you connect with your invincible summer this month, with a ton of great classes and workshops. We have two new classes debuting in March:
After School Happy Hour
, a 45- minute gently yoga session designed with our beloved educators in mind; and
Movement and Meditation,
a weekly class focused on connecting the mind and body through gentle movement and meditation. We are also thrilled to welcome back Celina McKenzie for our March SoundBath on 3/28 and Kristine Jenson for a mala bracelet making workshop on 3/23. Learn more below or visit our website.
We've also included tasty recipes from Sarah Sailer's January event, Barre and Brunch, as well as a treasured book recommendation, and tips to help out with wrist pain.
To support your commitment to yourself we are offering an Unlimited Membership promotion. If you register for our new 3-month unlimited memberships we will give you 10% off! Use the promo code

These sessions are wonderful for calming both the mind and body and resetting your entire energetic being.

Brunch Menu Ideas
If you missed out on our Barre and Brunch event last month, don't fret! Sarah was happy to share her easy and nutritious brunch ideas.
and find recipes for Chocolate Chia Pudding, Vanilla Chia Pudding, Strawberry Cheesecake Chia Pudding, and Spicy Turkey Sausage Egg Muffins.
Here are a couple more reasons to love the most important meal of the day:
Start the day off right! Adding chia seeds to your fruit bowls, yogurt dishes, muffins, and smoothies adds a nutritional punch. Did you know that 2 Tablespoons of Chia seeds contain:
- 64% more potassium than a banana
- 2 times the antioxidants of blueberries
- 41% of your daily fiber
- 5 times more calcium of milk
- 100% more Omega-3 than salmon
- 3 times more iron rich than spinach
- 20%of your daily protein
- 32% your daily magnesium
Are you an oatmeal fan? Rolled oats are one of the most nutrient dense foods you can eat.
- The nutrient composition is very well balanced: rich in carbs and fiber, but higher in protein and fat than most other grains.
- Loaded with important vitamins: manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, folate, vitamins B1 & B5.
- Rich in antioxidants, specifically avenanthramides which lower blood pressure.
- High in soluble fiber which reduces cholesterol, keeps blood sugar level, promotes healthy gut bacteria, and increases feelings of fullness which promotes weight loss.

Avoiding Wrist Pain in Yoga
Wrist pain is a common source of aggravation for many Americans, and can hinder a yoga practice. First, work with an instructor on proper alignment, and avoid poses that cause additional pain, such as arm balances. Always listen to your body to avoid injury.
Easy modifications can be made to pad up or alleviate irritation in writs, adding additional support and comfort.
- Roll, or double up, your mat to provide extra cushion.
- You may also try using blocks or knee pads under the palm of your hand to relax your fingers.
- Grip on to a small dumbbell to avoid wrist rotation issues.
In any hand weight-bearing posture (even table top!) remember to:
- spread all ten fingers wide, making large number 5 hands,
- press into the mat with your thumb, pointer and base of your pinky fingers
- ground firmly through your middle and ring fingers
- create a "suction cup" through the base of your palm to alleviate pressure through the fingers.
Whatever the status of your wrists—currently painful, in recovery, or blessedly problem-free—remember that yoga is meant to be a beneficial, healing practice. Always consult your health care professional with questions and concerns.

Book Review: Into the Magic Shop
Into the Magic Shop, A Neurosurgeon's Quest to Discover the Mysteries of the Brain and the Secrets of the Heart by James R. Doty, M.D
Growing up in the high desert of California, Jim Doty was poor, with an alcoholic father and a mother chronically depressed and paralyzed by a stroke. Today he is the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE) at Stanford University, of which the Dalai Lama is a founding benefactor. But back then his life was at a dead end until at twelve he wandered into a magic shop looking for a plastic thumb. Instead he met Ruth, a woman who taught him a series of exercises to ease his own suffering and manifest his greatest desires. Her final mandate was that he keep his heart open and teach these techniques to others. She gave him his first glimpse of the unique relationship between the brain and the heart.
Part memoir, part science, part inspiration, and part practical instruction,
Into the Magic Shop
shows us how we can fundamentally change our lives by first changing our brains and our hearts.
Perfect to take on vacation or before bed, Allison recently read this book and endorses it as "A spectacular read about a doctor who used meditation and manifestation to survive his childhood and adulthood. This book tells of his own journey but also offer "magic tricks" that teaches you how to relax the body, tame the mind, open the heart and how to clarify your intent."
