May is Community Action Month!

Community Action Agencies  (CAA) are local private and public non-profit organizations founded by the 1964 Economic Opportunity Act to fight poverty by empowering the poor as part of the War on Poverty.  A national network of over 1,000 agencies who strive every day to provide children and families with life-changing services and programs that create pathways to economic self-sufficiency.

Economic Opportunity Agency, Inc. (EOA) was established as a Community Action Agency in 1965.  Our mission is "empowering children and families to learn, connect, and succeed."

Throughout the month of May, we will post stats, fun facts, history, and more on our Facebook pages to celebrate Community Action and raise awareness.

April was full of activities at EOA,
here are just a few highlights:

April was Child Abuse Prevention Month.  Staff members at our EOA Administration Office and our EOA Children's Services Office (pictured) wore blue to support the statewide #weARblue campaign.

Our Oak Center had some special visitors thanks to the Sanchez family.  As part of the current unit on Growing, the children learned about how chicks grow into chickens.

The Junior League of NWA spent a Saturday preparing and planting our garden at the Pat Walker Center for Children.
Thank you, JLNWA!

As part of the current Growing unit, Ms. Heather's class watched their butterflies emerge from their chrysalis's.

H&R Block in Springdale collected items from our Needs List throughout tax season, delivering all of the donations to the Pat Walker Center for Children.  Thank you for this fantastic donation!

Staff Appreciation Day was held on April 20th.  EOA staff members enjoyed a day of recognition, fun activites, service awards, and yummy food!

Former Executive Director, Michael Lanier (left), was awarded the Charles F. Cunningham Leadership Award for his 25 years of service and  leadership to the Community Action Network.
Tammie Cagle, EOA Case Manager (above), was awarded the Diamond Champion Award for always going "above and beyond" in serving customers.
Both awards were given at the Arkansas Community Action Agencies Association (ACAAA) Conference.
