A Message from Our Rabbi
May 21, 2020

“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, and touches a heart.”

I imagine each one of us can think of at least one teacher who inspired us, believed in us, and, perhaps, even altered the course of our lives because of what they taught, how they taught, and the time they took to nurture our minds and our souls.

Judaism regards teachers with ultimate respect, knowing that they serve not only as educators but as role models for the next generation. We are, in fact, told to find a teacher for ourselves, as the benefit of doing so can be life-changing.

This Friday evening , we have the opportunity to honor and thank our M’kor Shalom Teaching Staff , in both our ECC and Religious School. Our teachers continue to inspire us with their passion for teaching, their commitment to our students and families, and their dedication to our Synagogue Community. Our teachers have been creative and innovative in shifting to online platforms for virtual classrooms. But we also know how much they have missed seeing their students in person, and how much their students have missed seeing them.

I hope you will join us Friday at 6:30 pm for Shabbat Mishpacha (Family Shabbat) and Shabbat Morim (Teacher Shabbat) as we celebrate those who share their love of learning and of Judaism with our students! (Click HERE for online siddur.) And, after services, feel free to stay on Zoom for a “virtual oneg” in celebration of our Teachers.

Shabbat morning , Carl Viniar will be leading a combined Torah Study and Spice Up Your Judaism program beginning at 10:00 am.

And, on Wednesday May 27, the first of three sessions of my Adult Education class Introduction to Kabbalah (Jewish Mysticism) and the Zohar begins at 10:30 am. While we had a couple of introductory sessions last winter, this Spring series will dive into the kabbalistic texts found in the Zohar.

L’shalom,

Rabbi Jennifer L. Frenkel
