Simple Ways to Relieve your Stress

As we're entering the second semester of school, we are all aware of the fast-paced nature of the next 3 months. Engulfed with AP exams, Finals, EOCs and preparing for the next school year, we can sometimes get too wrapped up with the grind and risk the health of our mental state. Your mental health is as important as your physical health (if not even more) and even if you are on a strict schedule, there are simple things you can do, that aren't very time consuming or strenuous to ease your stress. Here are a Few:
  1. Studies show that going for a brisk walk or doing a small workout helps reduce stress and anxiety by releasing endorphins that act as natural painkillers. Sometimes when I'm feeling overwhelmed with work, I really like stepping outside and just getting a breath of fresh air or just busting out a few sit-ups as it gets my mind off of what I'm worried about and it clears my mind. The next time you feel overwhelmed, try running around the house or breaking out your jumping-jacks and see the results.
  2. Drinking hot tea is also shown to relax your mind and body as it increases serotonin levels and brings warmth to your body. Consuming lemon balm and Omega-3 fatty acids are also proven to help relieve stress and anxiety.
  3. This may seem a little silly, but during the nights when I have loads of work, I take dance breaks. Yes, dance breaks. I have a playlist with my favorite hype songs and I just let loose and dance to get my mind off of work for just 3-5 minutes. I feel so much more energized and motivated to get my work done and I normally work faster after these breaks.
  4. When you have too many things going on and you don't know where to start, take out a sheet of paper and write down everything you're worried/stressed about and read it through and organize your list from your first priority to your last priority. Having the things, you have to do written on paper really clears your head as everything you have to do is organized in an orderly way.

Yogurt Guacamole

This is a light version of traditional guacamole. I find that it makes a great snack when eaten with various kinds of vegetable chips.

Ingredients
-       3-4 avocados
-       1-2 tablespoons chopped cilantro
-       1-2 tablespoons chopped pickled jalapenos or fresh
-       ½ finely chopped medium onion
-       Juice of one lime/lemon
-       ½-1 cup of yogurt
-       Salt to taste
-       Personal choice: if you want something red in your guacamole, you can dump in a little of         your favorite salsa or chop up some tomatoes to add to the mixture

Recipe
1.     Peel, pit, and mash the avocadoes

2.    Add the remaining ingredients to the mashed avocadoes
