CALMOD E-NEWSLETTER
In this issue: Safety rules for new electric lines, updates on construction and electric trains

Staying safe with new electric lines

Electrification of the Caltrain corridor means big improvements for the Caltrain community, such as reduced noise, better service, and improved air quality. It also means electric overhead lines will be installed to power the new trains. Electric overhead lines can be dangerous and even life-threatening, but you can stay safe by following a few easy rules:

Be aware of overhead lines
Caltrain's electric overhead lines carry 25,000 volts of electricity and can be dangerous. Treat all overhead lines with respect.

Keep yourself and objects away
Never approach overhead lines with things like ladders, antennas, balloons, and most importantly, yourself!

Stay away from damaged lines
If you see a downed or otherwise damaged overhead line, stay at least 25 feet away.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Construction to make Caltrain a modern, electric commuter rail system continues! This month, crews continued foundation installation from South San Francisco to Menlo Park and pole installation from South San Francisco to San Mateo. Five traction power facilities are currently under construction in South San Francisco, San Jose, Redwood City and San Mateo.

ELECTRIC TRAINS UPDATE

Interior equipment installation is now occurring in six of the car shells! Check out the video to see the upper level floors take shape in the primed car shells, as workers install mounting brackets and flooring. First article inspections continued in February, along with static and fatigue testing.

What Is CalMod?

The Caltrain Modernization Program (CalMod) includes electrification and other projects that will upgrade the performance, efficiency, capacity, safety and reliability of Caltrain's service. The current electrification project will electrify the corridor from San Francisco to San Jose and replace 75 percent of Caltrain's diesel service with high-performance electric trains, reducing air pollution and providing better service to more riders.
