WTH and PBJs
You know what’s good all year round? Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And by good, I mean, tasty, pretty non-perishable, and easy enough that a certain eight and six year old in our house can even make them although the clean-up process is a little iffy. The William Temple House is collecting nut butters and jams and jellies to add to their food pantry now through the end of March. So please, bring your favorite next time you’re here and leave them in the barrel just inside the front door. No clean-up necessary.
Take care,

Dear Parish Family,
Group rehearsals are underway for the first concert offered by Ascension Music this year! My friends, singers Nan Haemer, Charlotte Engler and Ben
España, are working with me to put together some lovely motets by
Isabella Leonarda
, the 17th-century abbess and composer from Novara. I'm especially excited about the passion and tenderness in the lovely original Latin poetry she set to music, and I can't wait for you to hear it interpreted by our sensitive singers.
|
For this concert, I'm also preparing a keyboard suite by
Élisabeth-Claude Jaquet de la Guerre, the Parisian composer, harpsichordist and organist who flourished during the reign of Louis XVI. I'm enjoying this suite more than many of the Baroque suites I've played (and I
like Baroque suites). It's expressive and inventive, its use of ornamentation is virtuosic, and it's satisfyingly and elegantly crafted.
Please join us on March 9 at 7pm for this rare chance to hear music by women composers of the Baroque!
Soli Deo gloria,

A Prayer for Shrove Tuesday
Thank you, gracious God, for the goodness of your creation. Thank you for tasty foods and delicious drinks. Thank you for occasions of celebration. And thank you for pancakes!
Lord, help me to know when it’s time to celebrate, and when it’s time to be solemn. Teach me how to enjoy good times with you and your people. Keep me from excess that dishonors you and misuses your good gifts.
Remind me, Lord, to share my celebrations with others. May I never get so wrapped up in my enjoyment of life that I forget the poor or neglect your call to care for them.
O Lord, may your joy be my strength! In your name I pray,
Amen

The Collect for the Seventh Sunday after Epiphany
|
|
O Lord, you have taught us that without love whatever we do is worth nothing: Send your Holy Spirit and pour into our hearts your greatest gift, which is love, the true bond of peace and of all virtue, without which whoever lives is accounted dead before you. Grant this for the sake of your only Son Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
