Douglas County Show Chick Order

This spring several poultry families are coming together to bulk order show chicks from a high quality hatchery. You are invited to partake in this order of chicks so that you can buy fewer, higher quality chicks at a reduced price. This is not just for 4-H show birds. If you are interested in buying replacement hens or even heritage turkeys or know someone who is interested, you might think about participating. 

Horse Member Meeting

February 7th - 6:30 PM Kirk Hall

Required for all new horse members and leaders to attend. We strongly encourage ALL horse members and leaders to attend as we will cover important horse program updates. 

The new Horse Project Manuals will be available for $10. Also, can be purchased in the office during business hours.

2019 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Training Schedule 

The disciplines offered at each training are also listed below. No RSO trainings will be held in conjunction with the 4-H Shooting Sports Leader Trainings this spring.   Registrations via 4HOnline will open approximately 6 weeks prior to the start of each training.   4-H volunteers must be approved, enrolled and active in 4HOnline prior to registering for the trainings. Do not delay the volunteer enrollment or re-enrollment process. More details regarding the trainings will be sent out in the near future.

2019 Creative Cooks Contest

Any 4-H’er may participate, including Cloverbuds, in the Creative Cooks Contest. You do not have to be enrolled in a foods’ unit to participate. You may enter as an individual, club, or a team (a team consists of 2). The contest is just what it says- “Creative.” Think of a creative theme and carry it throughout your entry. You’ll need to prepare one of the foods in your menu, two foods for a team, and multiple foods for a club. Champions in each age division are eligible for competition at the state fair, except in the club division.

Inspire the 4-H members – We Need Leaders

We have several dates held for project workshops. We would love to have a workshop or two on record books, computers, rocketry, public speaking, leather-craft or any other projects that members show an interest. We can plan more than one project a night.

Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF)

 

Citizenship Washington Focus (CWF), a week-long 4-H citizenship program for youth ages 15-19, is the preeminent 4-H citizenship and leadership experience for 4-H youth.

 

Every summer, thousands of young people participate in the program to strengthen their communication, leadership and citizenship skills on a national level; understand the importance of civic and social responsibilities as they relate to the development of better citizens and leaders; exchange ideas, practice respect and form friendships with other youth from diverse backgrounds; and experience hands-on learning using the historical backdrop of Washington, D.C.

CWF participants enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at our nation's capital and the chance to meet members of Congress; motivational speakers, educational workshops, and assemblies that increase individual commitment to citizen involvement and build lifetime skills for success; participate in activities that encourage new and lasting friendships; and an enthusiastic staff of young adults that work directly with them.

If you are interested in being a selected delegate, you need to go into co.4honline.com. Go under your profile. Go to “Register a member in an Event”. Select “2019 CWF Application Process”. Click “Register” button. Complete the application. Feel free to contact the Extension Office if you have any questions.

 

Note: The projected cost is $2,000 per delegate. Partial scholarship/grant funding may be available.

 

Deadline to submit your application onto 4online is February 15th.

4-H School Scholarships Available

Attention High School Seniors!!!!!

4-H scholarships are now available! Applications, transcripts and letters of recommendation can all be dropped off at the Extension office any time before the stated deadline. Please read through the entire application so you do not miss an important component. It is your responsibility to have complete and accurate applications. All parts of the application must be turned in on time, so please pay close attention to deadlines. Keep track of your references and follow up with them to make sure they provide your references on time. If our office is closed, there is a slot in the door where your application can be dropped off.

Livestock Field Day event in Larimer County.

Any 4-H kids wanting to add rabbits and/or guinea pigs to their project list there are 2 upcoming ARBA shows. February 9th at The Ranch(Larimer County fairgrounds) in Loveland, Co. March 1&2 at Castle Rock fairgrounds.

Both would be great opportunities to pick up your new project before the April 1 deadline.
