Avoid phishing email scams! Be alert for "EXTERNAL" messages to your inbox.

Phishing scams are on the rise again. Unfortunately, our 12,000 employee email addresses make us a prime target for scammers. Phishing/spam emails can damage computers, servers, files and more – they can also potentially put your sensitive personal information at risk.  The latest scams have been imitating principal accounts,  but there have been others in the past.

Generally, these types of emails contain an external sender address, meaning the subject line will say  “EXTERNAL”  and there will be a disclaimer in the body of the email saying it’s external. Plus, the display name usually does not match the email address. Other easy ways to detect spam is if it asks for your username and password or asks for money, gift cards or bank account access.  If an email looks suspicious, DON’T CLICK IT!

If you receive a suspicious email or accidentally click on a phishing link, report it to IT right away by calling 416-2700 (option 5).  To help create more awareness and protect employees from phishing scams, our IT and Risk Management teams are creating a new course in Safe Schools. Be on the lookout for more info soon.

SchoolSeed & SCS presenting "Envisioning Equity in Education" with Dr. John Marshall.

In alignment with the District's African American Male Empowerment initiative, Dr. John Marshall will be leading a session for educators, school/District staff and community members on February 20  at the TLA. Dr. Marshall of Jefferson County Public Schools is one of few chief equity officers in the nation - a job designed to ask uncomfortable questions about why some groups of students struggle when others thrive. Marshall does this with conviction—though not always with the utmost diplomacy—in Louisville, a city with a history of confronting racial inequities in its schools.  Register now to attend and hear Dr. Marshall's story, his triumphs and his lessons learned.
