Social Justice is the unifying mandate of Reform Judaism, central to who we are and what we do in contributing to Tikkun Olam, repairing the world -- through direct service, Tzedakah (Righteous Giving) and advocacy. Join us!
In early February, we began our relationship with the Farmworker Association of Florida/Homestead Location in preparation for our March 29th Pesach presentation: “Meet the People Who Harvest Our Food.” Seven weeks later we delivered 12 Brother sewing machines and all the accessories to support expanded sewing classes for women needing new skills to support their families! Thank you to Rabbi Morrison for kicking off the fundraising and the 23 congregants who joined in that effort -- enabling us to do even more, including providing a hot lunch at a special Mothers’ Day event. During that event, each woman received a “basket,” mostly with food donated by the Temple Israel Food Drive. The FAF staff and members send warm greetings of gratitude to the entire Temple Israel Family -- and we will continue to grow that relationship. Meanwhile, you can ADVOCATE for farmworker rights per the information in our Virtual Tzedakah Box!
Our Food Drive -- with a different recipient every month! -- will continue indefinitely because widespread HUNGER will not go away even when the pandemic does. Your own neighbour or co-worker may be struggling to get enough to eat, and 1 of every 4 children goes to bed hungry...Temple Israel is collecting the non-perishable food items listed below M-F/9am-5pm, and everything we collect in June will go to Curley’s House of Style/Hope Relief Food Bank in Liberty City (see photo below). Involve your children so they can know the need and be part of our effort...and please be generous. Thank you!

canned tomatoes/tomato paste, dried or canned beans, canned tuna/salmon/chicken, canned vegetables/fruit, oatmeal, protein bars, pasta/pasta sauce, fruit cups/applesauce, canned evaporated milk, peanut butter
Want a way to give from the comfort and safety of your homes? Use INSTACART! Select the non-perishable items, pay online, and have the groceries delivered directly to Temple Israel ...Thanks again!

Immigrants in South Florida have suffered disproportionately during the pandemic. Help is now on the horizon via recent passage in the House of the bipartisan "Farm Workforce Modernization Act" and the "American Dream and Promise Act." But first those bills must become law...and ADVOCACY is a core aspect of our mission seeking Social Justice. Learn more about immigrant advocacy HERE. Make a contribution to the critical work of the Florida Immigrant Coalition by clicking HERE. Thank you!
The RAC engages simultaneously in many matters of Civil Rights and recently released an important and timely article -- Don’t Sacrifice My Trans Child on the Altar of Political Opportunism -- written by a concerned mother whose daughter Eva is facing the impact of Trans discrimination laws in the south. The article links to more information about Transgender activism and ways to get involved -- especially critical in view of laws discriminating against femaleTrans athletes recently passed in Florida and many other states...Meanwhile the RAC Racial Justice Campaign is in full flight. Please tune-in to find a way that you can do your part. EVERY VOICE COUNTS!
