CMS Day of Service - Thursday, March 7
volunteer_signup2_hdr.jpg
Purpose:
In support of the district's core value of Compassionate Service CMS will be participating in its first-ever Day of Community Service on March 7. All students and staff will go out into the community to volunteer time and talents.  Students were surveyed in the fall to find out what kinds of community service they would be interested in doing.

A committee of teachers began contacting agencies to ask if we might bring a team of students to volunteer.  To date we have more than 20 different agencies that have agreed to having groups of between 10 and 125 students perform tasks such as sorting food and stocking shelves at food pantries, working behind the scenes at resale shops that benefit the homeless, reading to elementary students, and band performances at assisted-living centers just to name a few.

On February 8, students watched an informational presentation that showcased each volunteer opportunity after which they chose five places/types.  Teachers then signed up to chaperone at one of the locations.  Once students are placed in a trip location they will meet three separate times with all those going to the same place (the second meeting was last Friday).  At these meetings they will learn about the organization and the work done there.  If the organization receives donations of supplies, students will have an opportunity to gather things they wish to donate (food items, toiletries, etc.).

On March 7, all students and staff will board buses to spread out across the neighboring communities leaving at approximately 9:15 a.m. and returning to campus by 2:30 p.m.

Here is the link to the CMS general permission form that ALL students must have before they may travel to any site on March 7th:

Many of the locations will require waivers to be signed to allow students to participate. Please be on the lookout for this information in the coming weeks. Classes will not be held on March 7th as all students and staff will be volunteering. Any students who do not return permission slips will attend a study hall on campus that day.

We are needing a few parents to chaperone.  If you would like to join us, please use the sign-up genius link listed below:

If you have questions, please email assistant principal Janice Rowlands at:   [email protected].

International Festival

We are seeking parent volunteers to help with the 1st Annual CMS International Festival on May 17.

Our goal is to provide our students the opportunity to gain a better understanding about different cultures through a variety of educational experiences.  In order for this program to be successful, we need many parent and community volunteers.  We want to have as many different cultures/heritages as possible represented for our students.

For more information on the International Festival, and how you might help, please click here  CMS International Festival.

If you have complaints or concerns, please contact Officer Roberson 817-949-5414.

Lost and Found
Parents:
Our Lost & Found is overflowing again with jackets, hoodies, tennis shoes; books, notebooks, lunch boxes and water bottles.  Clothing items will be donated on Friday, March 8 before Spring Break.  Lunch boxes and water bottles will be disposed of at that time.

We also have a separate Lost & Found at the Front Desk for more valuable items, and we have collected phones, Invasalign retainers, glasses, ear buds, jewelry and other items.  These will be kept until the end of the year and then donated.

Please have your student check either Lost & Found for items they may be missing.

Traffic
There have been several complaints about vehicles turning in front of waiting vehicles on Kirkwood Blvd. before or after school.
The far right lane must continue straight and not turn in front of vehicles waiting to the left trying to turn to get into the drop off / pick up line.

Remember from drivers ed - two lines that intersect have a point of impact. Officers will be issuing citations for this violation.
If you are needing to park in the parking lot you must either wait or turn in the parking lot from the east side traveling west.

Any questions on this please contact Officer Roberson 817-949-5414

Laptop Covers
We still have hard-shell laptop covers (green only) available for purchase for $20.
Please see Mrs. Gulliver or Mrs. Brett in the front office to purchase one.

Dress Code Reminders:
If girls wear leggings, the top worn with them must be knuckle length.

If she wears shorts, a dress or a skirt, these items must be at least knuckle length.

Thank you for helping our students follow the district dress code.

Please review the full Dress Code in the Student Handbook.
