New CDBC Opportunity – Registration and Communication Manager
The CDBC is seeking a Registration and Communication Manager to work collaboratively with College staff to meet regulatory functions of CDBC registration and implement the Board’s Strategic Plan. This is a permanent, full-time position, with a target start date of March 15 – 30, 2019. The deadline to submit applications is March 5, 2019 .
Get Ready for the 2019-20 Registration Renewal
The online portal for Registration Renewal will be open March 1, 2019, at 9:00 am . Once the portal is open, you may access Registration Renewal by signing into your CDBC online account. This year, the fee for registration renewal in both “full” and “temporary” registration classes is $600.00 (April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020). The fee for registration renewal in “non-practicing” registration classes is $260.00.

Any registrant who does not renew registration on or before the 11:59:59 pm, March 31, 2019 deadline ceases to be registered and may not practice dietetics on April 1, 2019 . As per CDBC bylaws, section 49 (1) , renewing registration after the deadline incurs a “late” registration fee of $300.00. If you do not intend to renew your registration, please login to your account and choose “Not Renewing” and contact the College to resign in good standing.

Authorizations to Practice Restricted Activities between
March 1-March 31, 2019

Online applications for new authorizations to practice Restricted Activities (RAs) between March 1 and March 31, 2019 will be closed in Online Services. During this time, the CDBC will process any new, 2018/19 applications for RAs manually. This is to avoid confusion in online RA registration between the 2018/19 and the 2019/2020 fiscal years, during registration renewal.

If you require a new authorization to practice RAs between March 1 and March 31, 2019, you will not be able to apply online. Instead, please complete and submit an Application to Practice Restricted Activities , along with any electronic proof of competence documents, to info@collegeofdietitiansbc.org . The CDBC must process any new RAs for the March 1-31, 2019 period by hand. All documents must be submitted in PDF format and not exceed 4 MB in size.

If you are registering for RAs as part of your 2019-2020 renewal (i.e. practicing these RAs between April 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020), you must apply for these RAs via the CDBC online renewal portal. Identify your proof of competence to practice RAs and be ready to include this as part of your renewal application.

·          If you choose Verification of Proof of Competence – complete the Verification of Proof of Competence Form . This form must be printed, filled out by you and your verifier, and scanned to pdf format to be submitted with your renewal.
·          If your proof of competence is a CDBC approved course or workshop – submit an electronic version of your certificate of completion for the workshop/course (pdf not exceeding 4MB).

Please note that any certificate you provide must be valid during the entire registration year – April 1, 2019 to March 31, 2020. The registration portal requires the upload of an electronic document to register for RAs successfully. For more information on the RAs, click here .

2019 Continuing Competence Program (CCP) Group – Submissions are Overdue
This is a reminder to Full Registrants in the 2019 CCP Group who have not yet submitted their Professional Development Plans. Please log into the online CCP and complete your Self-assessment and Professional Development Plan as soon as possible. You must successfully complete the CCP requirement to renew your registration by March 31, 2019 .

Review of Your Statutory and Liability Declarations

Every year during registration renewal, registrants must review and solemnly declare that they will:
·          practice according to BC legislation , which includes the CDBC Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice ,
·          meet the CDBC’s Continuing Competence Program requirements ,
·          agree to a Criminal Record Re-check ,
·          complete the Jurisprudence Examination on a 5-year cycle, and
·          meet liability insurance requirements (an amount of not less than two million dollars ($2,000,000) per occurrence) as a condition of registration with the CDBC.

Remember, these declarations are legally binding statements and registrants are liable for any false declarations. When renewing your online registration, please take time to read all the documents listed in the declarations carefully, as they relate to your ethical responsibilities when practicing dietetics.

May 2019 Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination Scheduling Open

The portal to schedule appointments for the May 2019 Canadian Dietetic Registration Examination (CDRE) is now open. CDBC bylaws section 43 (3) requires any temporary registrant of the CDBC to write the CDRE at the first scheduled sitting after temporary registration is granted. Additionally, any current or former registrant who fails the initial attempt at the CDRE must sit the next scheduled CDRE (per CDBC bylaws section 47 (2).

The deadline to register for the CDRE is May 3, 2019. If you have not already applied to take the May 2019 CDRE, please contact the CDBC.

The CDRE is the national competence examination for Dietitians in Canada. It is the final confirmation of competence to practice dietetics, at entry-level. The CDRE is developed and administered by the Alliance of Canadian Dietetic Regulatory Bodies . The exam is required by every Canadian province, except Quebec, for full registration privileges. The College of Dietitians of BC is responsible for the administration of the CDRE in BC.

You Asked About… Preparing for Registration Renewal

How do I renew my registration?
Log into your CDBC online profile . Select the appropriate link (renew, reinstate, not renewing) and follow the instructions.

How do I know if my Jurisprudence Examination for Dietitians (JED) is due?
If you are due to complete the JED by March 31, 2019, you will have received an email from the CDBC well before now. In accordance with the CDBC bylaws, section 47 (7), Full registrants must complete the JED every five years to be eligible to renew registration. Temporary registrants must pass the JED as part of the requirements to become Full registrants. The JED requires a score of 100% to be considered complete. Registrants have unlimited attempts to reach 100% and there are no implications on your practice or registration for multiple attempts. The purpose of the JED is to ensure registrants understand the legal, ethical and professional framework for dietetic practice in BC. For more information and to complete the JED, click here .

How do I know if my Continuing Competency Program (CCP) requirements are due?
If you are part of the 2019 CCP group, you will have received an email from the CDBC well before now. At present, each registrant is assigned to a cohort for reporting his/her CCP every three years. Registrants in the 2019 cohort must complete their CCPs by March 31, 2019, to be eligible to renew registration. This CCP requirement fulfills provincial legislation that mandates registrants to stay current and practice safely, in the interest of the public. Registrants who practice Restricted Activities (RAs) must include at least one learning plan that demonstrates current knowledge and skills required for that practice. For more information and to complete the CCP, click here .

If I’m having trouble renewing my registration, what should I do?
If you have any problems with registration renewal (e.g. entering personal information, uploading proof of competence documents or selecting Restricted Activities), contact the CDBC before proceeding to payment . Your registration renewal must be completed successfully on or before 11:59:59 pm on March 31, 2019, otherwise you may not use the title Registered Dietitian and practice dietetics on April 1, 2019.
