Heritage College vice dean receives honor |
Wayne R. Carlsen, DO, was awarded the National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners' highest honor, the Santucci Award, last month. Dr. Carlsen is Heritage College's vice dean, associate professor of Family Medicine and medical director of the College's Community Health Programs and Area Health Education Center.

The NBOME is the leading assessment organization for the osteopathic medical profession. NBOME's COMLEX-USA examination series is a requirement for graduation from colleges of osteopathic medicine and provides the pathway to licensure for osteopathic physicians in the United States and numerous international jurisdictions.

ohio osteopathic symposium keynote speaker announcement
|
Andrew Morris-Singer, MD, will serve as the keynote speaker for this year's Ohio Osteopathic Symposium, to be be held April 25-29 at the Hilton Columbus at Easton Town Center.
Morris-Singer is president and founder of Primary Care Progress, a clinician, a medical educator and primary care advocate. He founded PCP in 2010 and it has quickly developed into an inter-professional, trainee-led, grassroots movement to reform primary care delivery and training. The organization has provided advocacy training and coaching to leaders across the country and has campaigned widely for greater awareness of the value of primary care.
He is a frequent blogger; has been featured in mainstream media outlets including NPR, CNN and
The New York Times
; and speaks regularly at academic medical institutions and professional conferences across the country.

student-led research on sexual harassment and assault

For survivors of sexual and relational abuse, a routine physical examination might be re-traumatizing. One Heritage College student and three Heritage College faculty members recently released research about how brain chemistry and behavior can change in the aftermath of assault. The

diabetes needs assessment
|
The Centers for Disease Control have found that diabetes is more common in Appalachia than in the nation as a whole. And according to a recent needs assessment by the Diabetes Institute at the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, its prevalence in the southeastern Ohio region is even higher than CDC estimates from a few years ago.
