TABC Performs Chesed in Puerto Rico
Last week 10 TABC students, led by Rabbi Kessel, went to Puerto Rico from Wednesday to Monday morning to help with the Hurricane Maria cleanup. The group was joined by heads of NCSY and seven Fair Lawn High students. The group landed late Wednesday night and, after an early Shacharit, headed to the city of Yabucoa to help with three homes that were devastated by the hurricane. The boys helped with demolition, roofing, painting, and cleanup on Thursday and Friday. Some of the locals mentioned that this was their first encounter with a Jewish person and could not believe that we flew all this way to help them. What an incredible kiddush Hashem! Shabbat was uplifting as the group davened with Chabad and ate their meals there as well. The students engaged in breakout learning sessions and meaningful discussions with the NCSY students. On Sunday the group headed to a farm area to help with planting trees and getting the land in order for the next season's crop. The boys did not forget to have fun as they went banana boating and enjoyed a hike in the El Yunque rain forest. After bowling and closing sessions, the TABC boys boarded the plane for Newark late Sunday night exhausted but uplifted from an amazingly successful chesed trip.

Rabbi Dov Lipman at TABC
Rabbi Dov  Lipman, former member of the Israeli Knesset, addressed the Israel Advocacy Club on Thursday morning. With standing room only - it was an incredible privilege to hear an analysis of the current Israeli elections from an experienced MK and to learn how the current cultural climate in Israel is playing a role in the elections. Rabbi  Lipman discussed the appropriate role that the United States should play in the elections and compared the democratic process of Israeli and US governments.
9G Scientists
Mr. Dietz's 9th grade biology students are using the light microscope to observe onion root cells in different stages of the cell cycle. Aside from preparing the cells using laboratory equipment, our young scientists were able to differentiate the stages of a cell's development from the slides that they prepared.

TABC at the
National History
Bowl and Bee
On Sunday, February 24, Yehuda Mazin '21 and Shlomo Yellin '21 competed as our JV team in the National History Bowl in Brooklyn. Questions involved all aspects of  world history and United States history. Despite competing against 4-person teams, Yehuda and Shlomo were awarded second place in the History Bowl. Yehuda also participated in the History Bee which is individual competition and was awarded second place. Kol HaKavod to our TABC team!
TABC at Model Congress
This past Thursday, TABC participated in Yeshiva League Model Congress, coordinated by HAFTR High School, along with fifteen other local yeshiva high schools.  Students were afforded the opportunity to write and present their original bills and resolutions to their respective congressional committees, debate with their peers about a myriad of issues facing our nation, and vote for or against the passage of these proposals.  Several TABC students were recognized for their outstanding participation in the event, including - Eli Rubin (1st place, Armed Services), Noam Barenholtz (2nd place, Environment), Liev Markovich (2nd place, Ethics), Levi Langer (2nd place, Healthcare and Pension), and Ephraim Helfgot (2nd place, Ways and Means).
Rav Ari Marcus at TABC
On Wednesday all TABC students were privileged to hear a talk from Rav Ari Marcus, the Rosh Yeshiva of Reishit Yerushalayim, on the wonderful benefits of learning halacha.  This year, more than a third of TABC students along with more than 50 alumni and parents are learning Rav Marcus's halacha work "Halacha 24/7/12" together in an online Whatsapp discussion group.  Students consistently report on how they very much enjoyed the presentation. The most important point made by Rav Marcus was that the learning of Halacha is part of our forging a relationship and love of HaKadosh Baruch Hu.  Just as a husband a wife love each other and observe certain rules to sustain the love, so too does the Halacha sustain and develop the love between us and our Creator. Many students expressed a desire to join the large group of students learning to Halacha 24/7/12 at TABC and listening to the daily two-minute 24/7/12 shiur coordinated by Rabbi Jachter and Rabbis Raphi and Yoni Mandelstam.
Jacob Solomon's Life Lessons for TABC Students
On Tuesday, February 26th, students in the 12th grade Introductory Economics/Financial Literacy classes were given a "reality check" by our guest speaker, Mr. Jacob (Yitzie) Solomon, MBA, CFP.  He began his presentation by asking several students what they thought the role of a financial planner was and why the average American has less than $100,000 in retirement savings by the time they are sixty? He went on to explain to the students that a financial planner helps people identify what their financial goals/objectives are, what degree of risk they can tolerate, but most of all, how to be prepared for the unexpected.

Mr. Solomon shocked many in the room with the various unexpected and certainly unpleasant events and situations which might happen to any person in their lifetime just as readily as the many joyful events we anticipate and plan for. Many students posed hypothetical scenarios to Mr. Solomon, in order to hear how an expert in the field of financial planning might advise his client in such a case. Forty minutes of the period seemed to fly by as the students were so engaged in the presentation. As Mr. Solomon advised the students,  the senior year of high school is a transitional time when they will end the "black and white" binary thinking of their childhoods, and begin to realize how much "gray" area there is in every situation.

Yitzie Solomon has been a longtime supporter and friend of TABC, and a former TABC parent, of Tzvi '09 who first started Pink Day at TABC (and then became a international event.).  He is a personal friend of Mrs. Reichardt, who is not only the teacher of the class, but also initiated this successful course several years ago and created the curriculum. Mr. Solomon has always generously offered his time to her students from the first year that it was offered. He has also offered our students internships in his firm. Thank you, Mr. Solomon, for all your efforts on behalf of our students!
