Twelve teachers from across the district received Hopkins Award grants to be used for new classroom materials or projects to benefit students. Awards were presented by Michelle Hopkins-Molinero during surprise classroom visits on Tuesday.

Paraguay Teacher Exchange:
Interested in a teaching exchange to Paraguay? Through a collaborative partnership with ESU, we can offer USD 253 teachers an opportunity in the summer to spend four weeks in Paraguay with a host family while visiting the local schools.  If you are interested, contact Kelly Bolin [email protected]
in Human Resources for more information.

Extended School Year Application:
Extended School Year (ESY) will take place this summer for selected students in the district. You must have a special education endorsement or be working toward one to apply for a teaching position. If you are interested in working this summer, please complete this form and submit it by March 1. If you have questions please contact Angela Harris

District Events:
EMS All School Theater Arts presents Seussical Jr. on Friday, March 1st and Saturday, March 2nd at the Granada Theatre, 7:00 p.m. Come see this unforgettable musical as Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage.  

EHS Mr. Spartan Competition:
The Kay Club at Emporia High School will be hosting its annual Mr. Spartan competition at the high school on March 4th at 7:00 p.m. in the EHS Auditorium. The contest for young men grades 9-12 will consist of a question/answer, talent, and selfie contest. The purpose of the event is to raise money for the Spartan Stop, which is a resource pantry that helps students receive basic necessities. The community is invited and encouraged to attend. It will be an evening full of fun to help support an amazing cause!

Village Elementary Trivia Night:
The Village Elementary School PTO needs your support to raise money for children that attend Village to go on a field trip each year! We are looking for sponsors for our two Trivia Events to help make sure this happens! Click here if more information or for sponsorship


Logan Avenue Elementary will be hosting its annual Pennies For Patients Fundraiser February 25th-March 8th, with the theme "Every Hero Needs A Squad . " The money raised will be donated to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to provide funds for research toward a cure for cancer. Logan Avenue will be collecting monetary donations from February 25th- March 8th at the school and through the online donation link on the Logan Ave Facebook page. There will be raffle baskets in the office with tickets available for $1 each or $5 for 6 tickets.

Autism Awareness Month t-shirts:
April is Autism Awareness month. Timmerman Elementary is selling t-shirts to support Autism Awareness month. The profits from this shirt order will help finance the adaptive needs of students in the Intensive Skills program at Timmerman. Reed Slayden, a junior at Emporia High School won a State Championship in the class 5-1A State Diving Competition earlier this month and was also named a first-team all-state selection.

Board Presentation:
Zach Snethen and associates of HTK Architects facilitated a question-and-answer session with board members to provide additional information related to the recently completed needs assessment. Snethen discussed the current timeline and a general overview of the entire project.  Board members were able to ask a variety of questions, provide input, and receive clarification on topics related to each building in preparation for the next steps of the needs assessment.
