Hello NSSD112 Community,

Below are highlights from the North Shore School District 112 Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 2019.
Teacher Presentation - Ravinia Greenhouse
Ravina teachers Dennis Brosseau and Sharon Steckel along with students participating in the Green Growers club presented information on the Ravinia Greenhouse. During the presentation, each student spoke about their Green Growers experience and what lessons they have learned about horticulture and healthy eating. This informational video about the club was also shown during the presentation. At the end of the presentation, students handed out heads of their freshly grown lettuce.

Superintendent’s Report
Tuesday night’s Superintendent’s Report was delivered by Deputy Superintendent Dr. Monica Schroeder. Topics of the report included an overview of District 112’s emergency day schedule that has been impacted by the inclement weather-related closings this school year. Dr. Schroeder reported that four of five of the emergency days will be added to the end of the school year to account for the days missed due to weather.

Dr. Schroeder also recapped several events that have taken place in recent weeks including Ravinia Festival’s REACH*TEACH*PLAY program sponsored by the 112 Education Foundation. During the event, held at Bennett Gordon Hall, students in 4th-5th grades enjoyed a performance from WindSync, a collective of five wind musicians who come together as performers, educators, and community-builders. Students were able to ask questions, learn more about each instrument, and use dance to interact with the performance. Other events mentioned were the Indian Trail Pancake breakfast, the 100th day of school celebration that was held throughout the district, as well as the first meeting of the Superintendent’s Citizen Advisory Committee for Construction Projects on February 5th.
