Huntsville Assistance Program
The Social Justice Committee  has a goal to collect at least 100 items each month for the food pantry.

Please put your nonperishable food items or personal care products donations in the basket in the church foyer for the Huntsville Assistance Program.

They run low on cereal, canned fruit, mac and cheese, peanut butter, instant mashed potatoes, Hamburger Helper-type meals, and canned veggies -- but not green beans or corn.

They are always
grateful for our donations. Thank you for your continued generosity!

"Spirituality in the Key of Life"
(Part 3)

Reverend Ed Brock

This will be the third of a four-part series of sermons on the theme of spirituality.  In the first two sermons, the point was made that human beings have certain nonphysical needs (such as the needs to forgive, be at peace, practice integrity, have guiding principles, and so on) and that what we call 'spirituality' is the way we address these needs.

In this third sermon in the series, we will explore the research on the power and influence of beliefs. There is a significant body of research demonstrating the enormous impact specific beliefs have on the mental, emotional, physical, and social conditions of human beings. Perhaps most interesting is the research regarding the impact of beliefs on physical health.

Exploring this subject will give us another way to understand the significance of spirituality in the 'key of life.'

On the first Sunday of each month, we Share the Plate during the offering, Share our Lunch with each other during Potluck, and Share our Bounty by filling the food basket! Please don't forget to bring non-perishable food and hygiene items for the food basket, to be donated to the Huntsville Assistance Program. All donations are welcome and appreciated.
return

We will continue our exploration of "INreach/OUTreach," how we create a wonderful welcome at church and extend it beyond our walls. Peace, Justice, and Searchers rooms will meet as usual in their age-based groups.

Nursery care for ages 0-3 will be offered as usual.

For more information, contact Erin Reid, Director of Religious Education, or Steve Rittenberg, CYRE Chair.

CYRE registration is open! All families, new and returning, should register each year.  Click here to register!

March First Sunday Potluck

It's almost March, and you know what that means. Time for a Sunday potluck!

Sunday, March 3, is the date for our next potluck lunch. Please bring a dish to share as we gather in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Come join your UUCH friends and family for a delightful lunch. We look forward to visiting and sharing a meal with you!

"Wi$e Principles of
Personal Finance and the
Power of Financial Planning"
Begins THIS FRIDAY

Do money worries cloud your focus or invade your sleep? Do money fights disrupt your relationships? Do you need help figuring out how to make ends meet? Do you want to get to the place where a missed paycheck is an inconvenience but not a crisis? Do you want to learn how to use money as a tool in living a contented, generous life?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, join us as we look at managing money as a spiritual practice. Through a book study and group discussion, we will look at attitudes about money and learn how to manage it in a way that leaves room for matters of the spirit.

This four-session Adult RE class will meet every other Friday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., beginning March 1. Sessions are March 1, March 15, March 29, and April 12.

Everyone is welcome, so bring your friends! Parents, bring your teenagers! Married couples and life partners are strongly encouraged to attend together. Childcare will be provided.  Copies of the book and workbook are available courtesy of the Social Justice and Adult RE Committees.

Sign up in the Fellowship Hall, or email Michelle Clark for more information . The first session has preparatory reading and exercises, so sign up early! Facilitators Bob Locklear and Michelle Clark look forward to seeing you there!

Are You Ready to
Become a Member?

If you've been attending UUCH long enough to know that this church community feels like your spiritual home, you may be ready to take the next step and become a member. On an upcoming Sunday in late March, we will welcome new members as they "sign the book" and officially join our church.

If you are ready to become a member or would like to find out more about the process, please contact Membership Chair Pam Korb by March 24 .

RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP
Because we are a democratic community, members are collectively vested with responsibility for the congregation. Members may vote at all congregational meetings, be elected to the governing Board, be appointed as committee chairs, and participate in all activities of the congregation.

Because we are a covenanted congregation, members have certain responsibilities to the congregation and to each other. These responsibilities are best fulfilled by:
  • Regular attendance at worship
  • Voting at congregational meetings
  • Making financial contributions
  • Contributing time and talent
  • Spiritual growth and development

We Share the Plate* with
Faith in Action Alabama

This month, we Share the Plate with Faith in Action Alabama (FIAAL). FIAAL is a 501(c)(3) statewide nonprofit organization with branches in Huntsville, Birmingham, Mobile, and Montgomery. FIAAL stands in witness with people across faiths and races, working to achieve systemic change by creating pathways of opportunities for all Alabamans. One of its current aims is solving the problem of mass incarceration.
Girl Scouts at UUCH
We are living the Girl Scout way  at UUCH and looking for friends to join us! Girl Scouts at UUCH meet biweekly to enjoy adventures, friendship, and fun together.

Contact Harper Goodman for more information.
Aware ness  Through Movement

The Feldenkrais Method of Awareness Through Movement class has started again with lessons that use small, gentle movement, imagination, and sensing. Mats will be provided, but feel free to bring anything you might need to make yourself comfortable lying on the floor. If you are unable to lie on the floor, please let us know, and we will make an accommodation for you.

This Adult RE class, led by Sally Locklear, is drop-in, with no experience necessary. Everyone is welcome.

We meet each Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Adult Religious Education Room.

Care List

This Sunday, February 24, 2019,  at our Circle of Candles:

Isaac Lambert lit a candle of sorrow: I have not been able to come and enjoy time with my extended family here at church.

Torin Kyemba lit a candle of joy: Have you ever heard these two words, "James and the Giant Peach" or "Roald Dahl?" If you went to the chilli cook-off, you would have some idea about it. I will be in a musical that I call JATGP (James And The Giant Peach). If you want to come to see me in several minor roles, go to a website called SHOWTIX4U.COM.

Anonymous lit a candle of joy: Grateful for the love in this place at UUCH and for the opportunity to deeply get to know other people in the Soul Matters groups, and to have the joyful opportunity to sing in the choir with our beautiful leader, Pam Siegler, plus all of the other opportunities to love and grow. So grateful! Grateful for our UU Youth and Erin!

Rachael Scheib lit a candle of sorrow: Dr. Ray, a longtime member of the UU fellowship in Florence, a supporter of our Mountain UUCH, and the donator of the pagoda presently outside the Adult RE windows, died this past Thursday at 93 years young. He leaves behind my sister from another mother, Andrea Ray. Send thoughts of peace. Dr. James Ray.

Pam Korb lit a candle of sorrow: Please keep Elizabeth Good and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Her mom is on life-support at Vanderbilt in an effort to keep her here long enough for a liver match to become available.
