USU’s Office of Research kicked off its new, collaborative initiative “Research Landscapes” this week, with USU environmental engineer Randy Martin presenting his air quality research Feb. 26 in a public forum in Salt Lake City. The purpose of the initiative is to highlight USU’s air, water and land research expertise and to foster conversations with Utahns in the public and private sectors.

Martin’s talk is the first of three public gatherings planned for 2019, with Biology Professor Michelle Baker, College of Science associate dean, presenting about water research in June, followed by USU Sociology professor Courtney Flint, presenting land use research in October. All are welcome to these free events. The initiative will also highlight USU’s many other research achievements in air, water and land.

The Academic Opportunity Fund (AOF) aids undergraduate students, who have been accepted to a research conference or academic competition, with funding to offset travel expenses.

Our USUSA Science Senator , Abigail Longaker-Service, encourages you to have undergraduate researchers in your labs apply for funding to help with travel for research and competitions this spring and summer.
General information for the three types of USU Office of Research seed grant funding opportunities can be found  here . Please note that while the OR deadline is Monday, April 15, 2019, the College of Science deadline   is  Monday, April 1, 2019.  This will allow time for a review of the application for completeness, readability and revisions.

Applicants will receive feedback one week following the submission of their application to the College.
Welcome, College of Science Photographer Lindy Schwendiman
College of Science photographer
Lindy is studying Marketing and Business Administration at the Huntsman School of Business. A freshman at USU, Lindy is a Huntsman Scholar and loves being involved. Her duties include photographing CoS events, planning photo opportunities, and creating lasting relationships across the university. In her free time, she runs a personal photography platform. She can be found taking photographs and adventuring in Utah's majestic mountains and across the Wasatch Range. Lindy enjoys camping with her family, playing board/card games, and traveling (especially to Disneyland).
Each year, the college awards minigrants to ten undergraduate students. The award period will be for one semester: Summer 2019, Fall 2019, or Spring 2020. Awardees will receive a College of Science stipend of $750 plus department- or PI-matched funds of $250 for a total of $1000.

Applicants must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors with a declared major in the College of Science. The application requires a faculty research mentor at Utah State University and a letter of support. Preference will be given to applicants who are pursuing their first research experience.

Please encourage students involved or interested in undergraduate research to apply before the deadline on April 1, 2019.
