Dear Team,
There is no doubt we are emerging from the dark days of the COVID-19 lockdown from one year ago. On Saturday, the Florida Department of Health in Orange County measured the County’s 14-day rolling positivity rate below 5 percent for 14 consecutive days, which meant all local mandates, including the indoor facial covering mandate were lifted as part of our Phase Three reopening.
However, please keep in mind, you may still be required to wear a facemask in locations where federal guidelines or CDC guidelines are observed. This includes airports, public transportation and/or even a private business. Regarding public transportation, the LYNX Regional Working Group has created a survey to assess how COVID has impacted the way you travel. We would appreciate your participation in the LYNX COVID-19 Passenger Survey as we all continue to assess how the pandemic has impacted our community.
Employee Face Coverings Guidelines
As a protective measure, I am asking employees to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines to help keep the County’s positivity rate low and continue our quest to keep this deadly disease under control. Fully vaccinated employees no longer need to wear a mask or physically distance in any work setting. However, there are exceptions. Vaccinated employees who work within Corrections, Corrections Health and the Medical Clinic are required to wear a face covering and practice prescribed physical distancing unless otherwise notified. Fully vaccinated employees who prefer to wear a face covering while in the workplace may continue to do so.
Onsite COVID-19 Vaccines
I encourage you to get the COVID-19 vaccine and am pleased we have been able to offer onsite vaccinations to employees and their family members. You can obtain the second dose of the Pfizer vaccine OR a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on County time (with supervisor approval) Thursday, June 17, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Facilities Management Meeting Room, 2010 E. Five-Year Pulse Remembrance
As individuals from across the nation celebrate LGBTQ+ Pride month, it is also a time to unite for the five-year remembrance of the Pulse tragedy. You can watch the Five-Year Pulse Remembrance Ceremony, hosted by the onePulse Foundation, this Saturday from 7 - 8 p.m., at the Dr. Phillips Frontyard Festival in downtown Orlando. You can reserve free seating or watch the ceremony at home by visiting the Dr. Phillips Center’s website. More information on this and other Pulse Remembrance events can be found on the Foundation’s website, OnePulseFoundation.org.
I would also like to invite you to experience the Orange County Regional History Center’s 2021 exhibition called “Community: Five Years After the Pulse Tragedy.” The exhibition brings to life the story of Pulse nightclub, from its earliest conception through the present day. To ensure this exhibition is accessible to the entire community, the museum will offer free admission through Sunday, June 13. “Community: Five Years After the Pulse Tragedy” runs through August 15, 2021.
United Way Giving Campaign
Orange County Government’s United Way Workplace Giving Campaign officially kicked off yesterday. The County’s dedicated employees play a vital role in helping and shaping our community. Together we serve as advocates for neighbors, helping to ensure they can achieve their full potential and thrive. Our partnership with Heart of Florida United Way allows the ability to provide assistance and programs to some of our most vulnerable residents, especially those who fall in the ALICE population. This is critical as we all slowly begin to rebound and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are in a position to do so, please consider donating. This year, employees can submit their United Way pledge card completely online through ocfl.okta.com. Review the Orange County United Way e-pledge manual for step-by-step instructions on how to complete your online pledge card. The deadline to submit pledge cards is Friday, August 13.
