Here We Grow: Annual Stewardship Campaign

Stewardship. Pledging. Financial Giving.  Fundraising. All of these terms are used interchangeably to refer to the process that Unitarian Universalism uses to garner financial contributions within each congregation to support their vision, mission, personnel, and operations.   This year, we are layering our approach with a month-long suite of testimonials, conversations, and messages that will lead up to a celebration Sunday on March 3rd.

Stewardship is about taking care of something we value and enabling it to grow. We are each stewards of Beacon, taking responsibility for our own success and contributing our time, talent, and treasure.   Giving financially  to organizations that hold great meaning to me warms my heart and "sparks joy."  I hope you, too, will see your annual financial pledge to Beacon as an opportunity to feel the joy of giving.

There are several ways to determine what your annual financial contribution to Beacon might look like.  First and foremost, consider your personal budget and what you are able to give. Additional ideas include tithing (giving 5% of your annual income to the church and 5% organizations of your heart), pledging a percentage of the Beacon budget (1% of the budget would be $1,698), or using the UUA's Fair Share Giving Guidelines . We will be asking for your annual pledge for July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 fiscal year at our Celebration Sunday event on March 3rd.

Celebration Sunday  - March 3rd - come for worship, offer your annual pledge (we will provide the pledge forms), bring a potluck dish to share and stay for a potluck amongst good company.   As always, visitors are welcome to join in the celebration.

If you are unable to attend this event, please login to Beacon website, download the pledge form , fill it out and send it back to us by early March.

~ REI Building Project Update ~

construction_hard_hat.jpg

As many of you may know, we were startled by the price we received from our contractor at the end of January.  We have since met with the contractor and architect, and renegotiated the price back down to something Beacon could afford.  There were some construction items that were removed, such as the alley parking, the handicap ramp in the back, and the cantilevered porch overhang.  These were not code required, but some are features that we would still l like to complete in the future, possibly by our members.

We have also been working with the city to meet their requirements to get our permit.  They have verbally agreed to allow us to establish the building capacity based on room usage.  This will keep us from having to make expensive upgrades that would take us out of our budget. We will be re-submitting the application with the changes very soon.

These challenges have slowed us down a little, but we are still moving forward!
