AEA Unveils 2018 Year-end Avionics Market Report
|
The Aircraft Electronics Association released its 2018 year-end Avionics Market Report, and total worldwide business and general aviation avionics sales for 2018 amounted to $2,728,657,109, or more than
$2.7 billion as reported by the participating companies. Of the more than $2.7 billion in sales in 2018, 57 percent came from the retrofit market, while forward-fit sales amounted to 43 percent of sales.
According to the companies that separated their total sales figures between North America (U.S. and Canada) and other international markets, 77.7 percent of the 2018 sales volume occurred in North America (U.S. and Canada), while 22.3 percent took place in other international markets.

Transport Canada Civil Aviation and the ADS-B Mandate
|
In August 2017, Nav Canada published a term of reference to develop its report on "Canadian ADS-B Out Performance Requirement Mandate." The stated purpose was to initiate a study to deliberate an ADS-B requirement for Canada. It was communicated by several entities that this report would then be submitted to the TCCA for review and final determination of what the ADS-B mandate would be. The study was to be submitted to the TCCA in the summer of 2018.

Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand Proposes Revision to AC 43-14
|
|
The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand has proposed a revision to AC 43-14, Standard Design Changes: Acceptable Technical Data. The advisory circular contains guidance and information about standards, practices, and procedures that the director has found to be an acceptable means of compliance with the associated rules and legislation. The Aircraft Electronics Association encourages members to read, review and comment on the proposed changes to this advisory circular. The focus of comments should be (1) errors contained within the AC and (2) any potential additional avionics systems that should be included in future revisions.

Genesys Aerosystems received supplemental type certificate and technical standard order for an IFR version of its HeliSAS.
Astronics Corp. announced that an amended STC has been approved for the Max-Viz 2300 Enhanced Vision System. Offered by Astronics' wholly owned subsidiary Astronics Max-Viz and obtained in cooperation with AVIO dg in Calgary Canada, the STC covers multiple Textron and Leonardo Helicopter models, including AW109 and AW119 aircraft. In addition, Astronics has closed the previously announced sale of the intellectual property and certain assets associated with its semiconductor test product line to Advantest Corp.
FreeFlight Systems announced that the Avail Performance Package is now shipping and available for installation. The package recently received FAA STC and AML certification.
Cutter Aviation announced the appointment of
James Boswell as manager of charter sales in the Charter and Flight Management Department based in Phoenix, Arizona.
Satcom Direct entered a formal arrangement with Rolls-Royce to deliver business aviation engine utilization data directly to the OEM via the SD Pro Operating System, using the SD FlightLogs post-flight data recording module.
Garmin commemorated the 25th anniversary of the GPS 155 TSO – the aviation industry’s first FAA TSO-C129 approach approved IFR GPS receiver.
Apex Aviation is now authorized to conduct repair and maintenance activities on aircraft registered in Mexico. Effective Dec. 6, 2018, the Mexican Direccion General de Aeronautica Civil issued Approved Maintenance Organization Validation Certificate Number CO-192/18 to Apex Aviation in Henderson, Nevada.

Anodyne Electronics Manufacturing Corp. announced that the Bombardier Aerospace G7500—one of the newest and most advanced corporate aircraft—is taking to the skies with AEM’s LSA100 cabin PA amplifier on board. AEM also was selected by Sikorsky to support three design and manufacture projects for unique interface boxes needed by the OEM for upgrades on their commercial helicopters.
West Star Aviation announced that its Chattanooga facility has been named an authorized service center for Embraer Lineage 1000 and 1000E.

Marika Brack has joined the avionics installations sales team at its full-service facility in Lincoln, Nebraska. In addition, Duncan Aviation’s Engineering & Certification Services department created a searchable database of the STCs the company has developed and has available for sale.
L3 Technologies and Saudi Arabian Military Industries signed a memorandum of understanding to explore opportunities for collaboration within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on projects related to the electro-optical/infrared and special mission systems markets.
Flightcell International Ltd. announced that the Flightcell DZMx, the all-in-one installed solution for global voice, data, messaging and tracking, has been enhanced with a new smart device app.
