City of Westland  Fire Department is Awarded $23K Safety Grant
Westland, MI (March, 2020) The City of Westland Fire Department has been awarded a Michigan Municipal Risk Management Authority (MMRMA) Grant for $23,750.00 to help the fire department purchase four power load stretchers.  The City of Westland has partnered with MMRMA to help reduce risk within the community through the purchase of these valuable devices.  The Stryker Power-Load system is designed with risk reduction features that benefit both the firefighter and the patient.

The Westland Fire Department is looking to implement the use of the Stryker Power-Load system into each of the department's four transporting rescue vehicles. Firefighters have daily contact with patients requiring the use of a stretcher. The repetition of loading and unloading cots in and out of a rescue involves an inherent risk to both the patient and the rescuer. The power-load system is battery powered with a locking feature that minimizes the risk of patient falls and firefighter injury.

"The City depends on grants like these to continue to fund service enhancements for our residents," remarked Mayor Bill Wild. "Every day we count on our firefighters to perform at their best, this is a tool which will help the fire fighters to improve their efficiency and better serve our residents in need."
