Creating Spaces:
Improving Our Outdoor Experience

Friends,

Last Sunday Greg Sprague and Bill Amador announced we are re-launching our campaign to improve the outdoor spaces of our campus. We were ready to launch this campaign last March, but decided it was best to put those plans on hold until the world opened up a bit.

The last year has shown us just how important our outdoor space is to WPC. We celebrated in worship, gathered in groups, held opportunities to grow in faith, and found ways to serve others...all outside. This campaign isn't just about overdue maintenance, it's about creating space to fulfill our vision as a church.

Please read Greg and Bill's letter below, and consider joining me in making a commitment to improving our outdoor experience.

Renewal
Isaiah 58:11 - “The LORD will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.”

It is time to rebuild and to dwell in the garden, beginning with our courtyard. We will honor the mighty oak that sheltered us for so long, that gave us a place to call “ours.”

Background
In October of 2018 we were all shocked and dismayed that our beloved Oak Tree, the heart of our courtyard was dying. WPC’s Property Committee began developing plans for revitalization. We also studied improvements to our Watergate Entrance and our North Entrance, and launched the Outdoor Spaces Program. Focus groups were held and presentations were made throughout 2019. A plan was finalized in early 2020 to move forward to realize our vision for these communal outdoor spaces.

The exciting work of improving our courtyard has already begun. Three new oak trees were planted and an awning was added to provide shade for the groups meeting outdoors as we reopened our campus. This is just some of the work that is being done and will continue when preschool Summer camp concludes in July.

Please Give
The total cost of our “Creating Spaces” campaign is $250,000, which we hope to complete over the next three years. We have raised $28,000 of the initial $125,000 needed for the courtyard, and are aiming to have 100% participation from our church community for this campaign. There is no gift too small or large. Your gift can be split over two or three years, with the work on the Watergate and North entrances taking place as funds are raised.

You can give online through PushPay (select “Outdoor Spaces Program” in the dropdown menu), via Venmo (@wpcWestlake), or through the office (cash or check payable to WPC).

Commitments can be submitted to Terry Monahan in the office, or emailed to terry@WPCwestlake.org. Please visit our website to find out more about our plans. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Greg Sprague at gsprague@spraguesearch.com.

Sincerely,
