Have you ever enjoyed a night around the campfire, singing songs and telling the grand stories of days gone by, maybe stories that helped make you who you are today? If so, you have had a glimpse at the joy and excitement of the beginning of the Easter Vigil. It is our time to gather around the fire and tell some of our very best tales from the journeys of the mothers and fathers of our faith.
This year in Lent on Thursday nights at 5:30, come and join an all-ages adventure as we explore some of these stories in fresh ways, with a hands-on, interactive presentation from the Bible and then a time to respond with our own creations (in art, craft, or even LEGOs!) to represent what the story means to us. Stay for dinner at 6:15! And then at 7:00, children and youth are invited to recreate the story of The Flood and make a video to be shared with the parish at the Easter Vigil! Participants will plan, build, film and edit their version of this formative story. You won’t want to miss it! We are in need of some additional adult participants for this endeavor. If you can assist for one or more Thursday nights from 7:00-8:00, please contact Kelli Jones at
[email protected]
or via phone or text at 770.403.4664.

We Have a New Deacon!
Lesley-Ann Drake
Lesley-Ann grew up in Croydon, England. After business college she worked for American Express Travel in London. A 2-week work assignment in Atlanta in 1980 turned in to a much longer stay because she is still here! After chasing a career for 19 years with AmEx, she became a full-time mom when her second child was born. Living in Dunwoody she got involved with the local schools and helped write the Charter for Chesnut Charter Elementary School. Her husband, Bob, and Lesley-Ann attended Church of the Atonement in Sandy Springs for over 20 years, both singing in the choir, serving on the vestry, and taking two years of DOCC. Lesley-Ann volunteered for the church and took a semester of CPE, planning on becoming a hospice chaplain. During the formation process for the diaconate, she heard a new call to work with children, and founded Path To Shine®. Since 2010, PTS has grown to 16 locations around the Diocese, and is Lesley-Ann's full-time job. You can find more about PTS at
pathtoshine.org
.
Lesley-Ann has been married to Bob for 30 years. Her older daughter, Emily, lives and teaches in the London (UK) area. Her younger daughter, Alice, lives in Atlanta and works for Houser Walker Architects, and is planning to attend graduate school next year. Lesley-Ann is an Associate of Green Bough House of Prayer. On the occasional free moment, she enjoys cooking, reading and movies.
Lesley-Ann's start date with us is Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Call for Vestry Nominations
The Vestry is seeking nominations to fill the unexpired term of Star Rios, who recently stepped down from vestry. Star’s term ends in January of 2021.
At its retreat this past weekend, the Vestry discerned that there is a particular need for a new member who feels called to the Feed Pillar, which focuses on the many ways we care for our parish family (pastoral care, parish events, etc.).
We are asking those who feel called to join our vibrant Vestry team to arrange a meeting with Fr. Dick or Senior Warden Michael Crowe prior to submitting a nomination form.
Nomination forms and qualification details are available at the volunteer desk in the church office or as a PDF
here
. Nominees are required to be active, contributing, confirmed or received members of the Parish.
The deadline to submit a nomination form is
Wednesday, March 20, at noon. The Vestry hopes to discern a call to a new vestry member at the March 24 Vestry Meeting
. Nomination forms must be accompanied by a photo of the nominee. Please email the photo and completed form to Cowen Harter at
[email protected]
by the March 20 deadline.

February 19, 2019
Happening is a Christian experience presented by teenagers, for teenagers with the help of clergy and lay adult leadership. It seeks to achieve this purpose by bringing young persons and adults to fuller personal knowledge of and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and to a deeper level of commitment and apostleship.
Our most recent weekend, Happening 71, was February 15-17, 2019. Led by St. Patrick’s senior, Autumn Toms, 175 youth and adults gathered for a renewal weekend at Camp Mikell. With the theme Love Unstoppable, the youth met both in small groups and as one body to discuss topics like piety, sacrificial love, apostles, how to bring the love back down the mountain, and many more.
A big thanks to Autumn Toms, Rector, Sophie Alexander, Observing Rector, Spiritual Directors, Rev. Bonnie Underwood and Clayton Harrington, Lay Directors, Sally Benton and Matthew Bowers, and especially to all our youth that served on team for this transformational weekend! It couldn’t have been done without all of these dedicated people!

Lenten Discussion at The Forum
Join Father Dick and Mother Julia this Lent as we explore the fulness of Holy Week, using Amy-Jill Levine's new book and DVD, Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner's Guide to Holy Week. We are super excited about this new offering, and believe it will bring a richness and depth to your experience of Holy Week.
_______________________________
Jesus’ final days were full of risk. Every move he made was filled with anticipation, danger, and the potential for great loss or great reward.
Jesus risked his reputation when he entered Jerusalem in a victory parade. He risked his life when he dared to teach in the Temple. His followers risked everything when they left behind their homes, or anointed him with costly perfume. We take risks as we read and re-read these stories, finding new meanings and new challenges.
In
Entering the Passion of Jesus: A Beginner’s Guide to Holy Week
, author, professor, and biblical scholar Amy-Jill Levine explores the biblical texts surrounding the Passion story. She shows us how the text raises ethical and spiritual questions for the reader, and how we all face risk in our Christian experience.
Entering the Passion
of Jesus provides a rich and challenging learning experience for small groups and individual readers alike. The book is part of a larger six-week study that is perfect for Lent and includes a DVD, and a comprehensive Leader Guide.
The book’s six chapters include:
- Jerusalem: Risking Reputation
- The Temple: Risking Righteous Anger
- Teachings: Risking Challenge
- The First Dinner: Risking Rejection
- The Last Supper: Risking the Loss of Friends
- Gethsemane: Risking Temptation
