2020 Senior Post-Prom

The Senior Prom will take place on May 2, 2020, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Following the prom, our senior parents/guardians are planning the Post-Prom which will be held at NASH from midnight to 5 a.m. The theme for this year’s Post-Prom is Friends Episode 2020

The Post-Prom provides a safe and supervised environment for our students as they celebrate the end of their high school experience. This event is a gift to our students from our community and parents/guardians to celebrate and recognize their success. The Post-Prom also serves as a gift to our community, our first responders, and to our families and children. When students are provided with safe alternatives, they are less likely to engage in behaviors that can have a tragic impact on our community.

The Senior Post-Prom is primarily funded through generous donations, and the Post-Prom committees cannot do this without your help. Donations made to this account will benefit our seniors directly and will be put towards decorations, food, entertainment, and activities for nearly 600 students. Please consider donating.

Senior Diploma Confirmation Form Distribution

On Monday, January 6, homeroom teachers distributed senior-specific diploma confirmation forms to senior students. These forms should be reviewed by seniors and their parents/guardians, signed, and returned to homeroom teachers on or before Monday, January 13.

Caps and gowns will be ordered by the school utilizing the height and weight taken by the school nurse earlier in the year. Seniors will purchase their caps/gowns/tassels during the week of graduation during Senior Obligation Day.
Senior Graduation Announcement Order Form Packets

Graduation announcement ordering packets have been handed out to seniors in their homerooms. Completed order forms will be collected during all lunches on Wednesday, January 22. Any extra items can be ordered from this packet, but as a reminder, caps/gowns/tassels will be ordered by the school and purchased by the seniors during the week before graduation.
Senior T-Shirts Have Arrived

Senior t-shirts have arrived and are on sale for $15. Cash or checks (made out to NASH) are accepted in Mrs. Perry’s room (313) before school, during homeroom, and immediately after school. Follow Mrs. Perry @perryshan21 or Mr. Solendary @MisterSolenday on Twitter to stay in the know with more senior class information.
News U CAN Use
(from the Student Assistance Program)

The Highmark Caring Place is holding its 5th Annual Poster Contest and all NASH students are invited to participate! This year's theme is "How to Help a Grieving Friend After the Death of a Loved One".

Some topics/ideas to consider for your poster include:
  • Being there for a grieving friend/spending time with a friend after someone has died.
  • All feelings are okay after a death.
  • What friends have done to help you when you were having the worst day/felt terrible.
  • Things you can say (or do) to help a friend in need.

Posters must be designed on 11x17 size paper using pencil, crayon, markers, or paint. Posters must be designed by hand; no computer-generated images/designs/or copyright material. Posters may be submitted by an individual student or a group of students.

Students interested in entering the contest should contact Mr. Longo, SAP Coordinator, for an official entry form. A description of each poster is required. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Additionally, the first-place winner will have their poster reprinted and distributed to schools across Western PA in the fall of 2020!

All posters are due to Mr. Longo by Friday, January 31, 2020, for submission to The Caring Place.

District Updates
Flexible Instructional Day Previously Scheduled for February 3

In previous communications sent by the District, it was declared that Monday, February 3, 2020, would be a scheduled practice Flexible Instructional Day (FID) for the District. However, the District was notified on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, that the Pennsylvania Department of Education did not approve the request.

Therefore, the practice Flexible Instructional Day has been canceled for February 3, and all North Allegheny Schools will be in session for a regularly scheduled school day.

The first FID will be implemented if/when North Allegheny uses all four of the built-in snow days.
