Dear Friends,

At our home we decorate inside and out for seasons and holidays. Right now, there is an on-going patriotic theme covering Memorial Day, Flag Day and July 4th. Each of these holidays we celebrate and remember those who fought and died for our independence.

May and June also include Mother’s and Father’s Day. This, too, is a time for gathering and remembering. Whether our parents live or have died we take time to share stories. All of these events in our lives have highs and lows, joys and sadness.

As we venture into summertime, the world is beginning to open up again as we move beyond covid-19. We look forward to our special summer gatherings for TIDES. We’ll enjoy the Arboretum, Wasson Farms and Rising Hope Therapeutic Riding Center.

No matter what the day, month or season we also grieve. Grief is our companion on life’s journey. One message we hope to share is that you are never alone in your grief. We join you in our meetings together – on zoom or in person. We remember you and your loved ones on special days and ordinary days.

May the unforgettable moments in history, whether our nation’s or our own personal his or herstories, offer us opportunities to remember and share our memories together. All of us at TIDES cherish you, your loved ones, and your stories.

Your grief companion,

Evelyn Wald
Program Director

First Summer Picnic
After being virtual for over a year, Tides hosted our first in person gathering on June 24! It was wonderful to connect with one another in person, meet new friends, and share a sense of understanding and common ground. The kids had fun with Ms. Evelyn on their scavenger hunt, while the adults enjoyed reconnecting with one another. It was a beautiful evening!
Thank you!
After the death of their beloved David earlier this year, the O'Connell family decided to host a 5K walk on June 5 in memory of David and to raise awareness of suicide prevention. Through t-shirt sales and donations, David's Last Mile raised $1,300 in support of Tides. Thank you to all those who supported Tides and helped raise awareness through this event!
We have some amazing young philanthropists in our community! After winning the Tripletown Aces Baseball Program Charity Challenge Tournament, The State College Wild 13u Baseball Team donated their winning prize money to Tides. Congratulations on the big win State College Wild and thank you for your support of Tides!

Volunteer Spotlight
Bob Frankenberg

When I moved to the State College area and first heard about Tides, I was intrigued. My mother died of polio when I was eight years old. This was in the 1950's and there was no support system available back then. So when I heard that Tides was a group that offered grief support for children, teens, and adults, I knew I wanted to know more about Tides, and if possible be a part of it. For the last five years I have been volunteering, serving as a facilitator for the Parent/Other Loved One Loss Group. One of the things I most love about Tides is that we are a group, a family. No one is alone with their grief. Instead, we all are in the company of others who also grieve, and we all share and support one another.
