Old McHenry/RPC Stoplight Set to 'Turn On' March 3
The long-awaited traffic light at the intersection of Robert Parker Coffin (RPC) and Old McHenry roads will be activated the morning of March 3, 2020, w eather permitting. This is part of the transformation of the historic downtown that began in June of 2018. Other improvements have included the installation of piping to transport public water into the downtown, reconstruction of Old McHenry Road and RPC Road, and the addition of street lamps, benches, landscaping and ADA accessible sidewalks. Repairs to the bridge and replacement of the bridge cover will begin this spring, with the renovation to be completed this summer. The Village would like to thank all residents, businesses and visitors for their patience during this construction as the Village strives to beautify and revitalize downtown Long Grove.

RPC Closure for Final Improvements Scheduled for March 15
The final project to bring the RPC Bridge back to its former historic appearance (prior to the June 2018 accident that damaged it) along with repairs and replacements to its structure, will start soon. The contractor handing this project is planning to close the bridge on Sunday, March 15, 2020 to address several projects that will ultimately restore it as the gateway into the Village. These improvements will include the replacement of limestone abutments, painting of the original iron structure, and replacement of the wood cover. The total cost of improvements is approximately $1.1 million with an approved state grant of $250,000 and an insurance reimbursement of $260,000, along with donations of $75,000 from the Historical Society. The Village Of Long Grove will have an estimated out of pocket cost of $500,000. This final project is estimated to take roughly four months (weather-permitting). The Village thanks everyone for their patience during a considerable amount of time and work toward building a new future for the RPC Bridge.
The U.S. Census is Coming Soon!
Census Day is April 1, 2020; the U.S. Census Bureau wants to record every person living in our country who are living in their residence on this date. Residents should expect census forms to arrive in the mail by mid-March. Participation in the Census is mandated by the U.S. Constitution, and is important for many reasons. Population counts for every community across the country qualifies them for state and federal resources and funding. These help to provide vital community services relating to public safety and health, a range of grants for schools, and other community-building assets. Every resident in Long Grove counts, and represents approximately $1,200 per year, per resident for the next 10 years for each person counted. Since the Village does not levy a municipal property tax, being counted in the census is that much more important for Long Grove. Federal and state political representation for the Village is also dictated by the population count. For more information, visit census.gov
Spring Migration Presentation at
Reed-Turner Woodland
The Long Grove-Kildeer Garden Club is offering a free presentation on birds that migrate through Reed-Turner Woodland in the spring. Pictures of birds, along with bird calls and behaviors that help bird watchers identify them will also be part of this educational event. This presentation is Monday, March 9, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Reed-Turner Woodland Nature Center, 3849 N. McHenry Road in Long Grove. All are welcome.   If you are interested in learning more about the club, please contact Penny Fulkerson at pennysgarden@att.net
