SNOW- just another 4-letter-WORD

A Note From Pastor Linda

Be still and know... ~Psalm 46

Dear Friends,

February 2019- the snowiest month in recorded history!! Take a moment today, in the midst of the beauty, silence and stillness of the SNOW. I know, I too am TIRED of all the white stuff as it piles up everywhere! (Special THANKS to Andy Wachholz and his crew at Ground Force for keeping our parking lots cleared and our sidewalks shoveled.) While SNOW has been termed "just another 4-letter-word", I have also been awed at my Instagram feed at the many photos that friends have shared; photos of the winter wonderland, kids all bundled up, unrecognizable and laughing with joy as they sled and build snow people, even having snowball fights, all in FUN!

SNOW- could snow be God's way of slowing us busy-people down? Cancelling programming, staying home, eating dinner together, taking a nap! Are these bad things? Or, in the midst of the frustration and "not again!" kind of response, might we open our eyes and see God's fingerprints in the SNOW? OK- maybe not for Andy and his crew... but what about you? Consider this:

  • A tasty delight: a bowl of fresh snow (NOT YELLOW!) mixed with milk, sugar and a dash of vanilla provides a delightful snow cream.
  • "Wash me and I will be whiter than snow." (from Psalm 51) A fresh blanket of snow covers all the muck and mud. God's love does the same for us- even more! God's love more than covers the muck in our lives; it removes it- making us whiter than snow!
  • Catch a few flakes on your mitten and marvel that each snowflake is unique in design, one-of-a-kind! In the very same way, we are God's masterpiece. Wow!
  • Finally, slick and slippery roads have the opportunity to increase our prayer life: "Lord, help me stay on the road!!" OK- perhaps better to stay off the roads, if possible.

SNOW- beauty, silence, stillness and perfection. Amen.

(OK- this is way too funny. As I got ready to send this off to print, my weather app alerted me: Snow will begin at 10:30am... You can't make this stuff up!!)

See you in CHURCH!

 ~Pastor Linda
