Safety is our biggest concern
PARKING LOT
The parking lot on Elizabeth St. is not an entrance or exit for students. Due to the amount of traffic that comes through this area, we will not be allowing the students to enter or exit these doors. Please do not drop them off or pick them up in this area.
PLAYGROUND
Teachers will sometimes bring students outside for purposeful play at the end of the day. Because of this, we are asking parents to remain on the outside of the fence around the playground until school lets out at 3:05. We also ask that you do not drive onto the parking lot/playground to pick up your child.

Meet Sora! by OverDrive: eBooks & Audiobooks for Marinette Public Schools
We’ve now made it even easier for families and students to find and check out books they will love to read. You can use Sora by OverDrive to access hundreds of e-books and audiobooks via Marinette Public Schools. Just log in with your Marinette.k12 Google account! You can even use your public library card and log into their collection too!
Sora is easy to use and works on all major devices:

Schedule Your Child's Developmental Check-up!
This event is for families of children who will be 3 to 5-years-old by September 1, 2019 - AND - who do not currently attend Marinette School District’s Menekaunee Sunrise Early Learning Center.
Families can schedule an appointment on one of three designated “check-up” days to learn about their child’s developmental milestones, as well as tour the Menekaunee Sunrise Early Learning Center.

SPIRIT STICK WINNER....MRS. LANG'S CLASS
A running total is kept to determine which class had the highest percent of participation points for Wacky Wednesday. These points are tallied at the end of each month and the class that has the highest percent wins the Spirit Stick.

March Character trait--GRIT
|
What is grit? Grit is the ability to keep working toward a goal, overcoming challenges and sticking with it even when it's hard.
A true definition of grit would say that grit is a personality trait that helps you keep working toward long-term goals despite setbacks or failures. It is similar to
perseverance
and it requires a growth mindset— two similar character traits that mean you are willing to keep working and improving at something despite the challenges that get in your way.

In an effort to improve parent and community engagement, we will begin using Peachjar to send digital flyers directly to our families.
Digital flyers will be sent directly to you by email so that you can see them on your smartphone or computer screen.
Additionally, all flyers will be posted to each school’s website.

The February School Board meeting "Spotlight on Learning" was presented by Garfield teachers Angie Smith and Amanda Klein and their students: Eli M., Kylie K., Wyatt S., Lincoln B., Courtney C., Connor H., and Aidan J. These students are leaders of their literacy circles and did a great job of sharing how the enrichment experience has been progressing since November! Nice job!

Garfield Elementary students will participate in the Wisconsin
state-wide Forward Exam in April 2019. Students will take the Forward Exam between Tuesday, April 2, 2019 and Friday, April 12, 2019.
More information will be coming regarding how to help your student prepare. We ask that all students be present at school during this time. If an absence can not be avoided,
we ask that you contact the Main Office.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Hello Garfield Families and Friends--
Our new year has been off to a snowy start! Would you like to help make sure all those days of lost school days don't get in the way of student learning? Simply carving out just 15-20 minutes each night for reading can have a huge impact on student learning. Younger kids can read to you, the family pet, or a favorite stuffed animal. Older students can read to themselves. If you have time to do more, have them log into any of the computer programs they use at school. A few examples would be EPIC, Think Central, xtramath, MobyMax, Tumble books, or Prodigy. Doing a little extra at home can go a long at school. We teach the kids that the only way to get better at something is to practice. Thank you for your efforts to supporting learning at home!
Looking forward to seeing all our Garfield families and friends on Thursday, February 28th from
3:30-6:30 for Literacy Night! There will be chances to win gift certificates. We will have free pizza and activities the whole family can enjoy.
