WORSHIP SERVICE THIS WEEK

BAPTISM OF OUR LORD
In the waters of the Jordan, Jesus is revealed as the beloved Son of God. Through this great epiphany, Jesus fulfills all righteousness and becomes the servant of God who will bring forth justice and be a light to the nations. In the waters of baptism we too are washed by the Word, anointed by the Spirit, and named God’s beloved children. Our baptismal mission is to proclaim good news to all who are oppressed or in need of God’s healing.

HYMNS FOR JANUARY 12
This week we're fortunate to sing two of the great enduring melodies of the English folksong tradition: DEO GRACIAS (the Gathering Hymn) and KING'S LYNN (the Hymn of the Day). The first is well over 500 years old. In fact, as part of my accompaniment to your singing, you'll get to hear a setting that is drawn from a 15th-century manuscript. (Thanks to our Episcopalian friends for making this easily available in their Hymnal 1982.) Oh, and if you're a Shakespeare fan, you may recognize this melody from Laurence Olivier's film Henry V.
Not to be outdone by the Brits, the third and fourth hymns draw from our own Germanic Lutheran tradition.
- Oh, Love, How Deep (ELW 322)
- When Jesus Came to Jordan (ELW 305)
- The Only Son from Heaven (ELW 309)
- Songs of Thankfulness and Praise (ELW 310)

EPIPHANY MUSICAL LITURGY
Since we're launching into the season of Epiphany this Sunday, here's our musical liturgy for the next few weeks. Two melodies from Schubert, two Lutheran chorales, and - for folks who enjoy the popular idiom - Marty Haugen's Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful.
- Kyrie - from Franz Schubert's Deutsche Messe
- Gloria - the Lutheran chorale Allein Gott in der Höh
- Offertory Hymn - Marty Haugen's Let the Vineyards
- Sanctus - from Franz Schubert's Deutsche Messe
- Agnus Dei - the Lutheran chorale Christe, du Lamm Gottes

EPIPHANY PRAYER
The God who breathed this world alive
And sustains it day by day
Whose hands flung stars into space
And controls our destiny
Says, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you.”
The God who filled the ocean depths
And set tides on their way
Who caused mountains to be raised up
And rainbows to display
Says, “I have called you by name, you are mine.”
The God who made the fertile earth
And seed within to sow
Whose artistry creates butterflies
And the early morning dew
Says, “You are precious in my sight.”
(based on Isaiah 43:1-7)

YOUTH VALENTINE'S DINNER FUNDRAISER
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 14
7:00 PM
We will be setting up and prepping for the dinner on Thursday the 13th and we can use youth and parent assistance on that evening. This is one of the largest fundraisers the youth ministry has for the year and because of that, all youth are asked to participate in this event.
Youth are asked to wear a white shirt, guys wear a tie, and dark pants or ladies may wear an appropriate length skirt/dress. Please plan to be at Calvary, dressed and ready to go, as soon as you can. High school students should arrive around 4:00.
Please invite your friends and family members to join us for this special event. Afterwards, we will need a good number of parents to help with clean up in the kitchen as well as the fellowship hall. Without the parents, this would not happen so please sign up and help the ministry reach it's goal. Thanks and we will see you on the 13th and 14th of February.

We have been SO blessed by so many of our partners and friends who have brought in LOTS of food donations in the past month. You all are wonderful. Our inventory is so much better than it was in early November. However, please keep it up! - Soup – all kinds
- Tuna and Canned Chicken
- Rice
- Spaghetti noodles and any other dried pasta
- Pasta Sauce
- Canned Corn
- Canned Fruit
- Dried Beans
- Toilet Paper & Paper Towels

COAT DRIVE
Social Ministry is partnering with Cabarrus Partnership for Children to collect coats (new and gently used) children sizes 0—5, hats and gloves. We will have this collection thru
January 30, 2020
. This is to provide coats to children that do not have a coat at all. Please consider donating a coat or coats to help us help those in our community stay warm this winter. Coats are distributed to preschools in Cabarrus County. A box is located in the portico area marked Cabarrus Partnership for Children Coat Drive.

ONLINE GIVING
You can manage your giving online! Giving online is easy and allows you to set up automatic recurring contributions or make a one time contribution and view your complete online giving history from anywhere you have access to the Internet. In a few short minutes, you can make a one-time gift or set up a donation that will process automatically on a recurring basis. Recurring donations are convenient and provide our church with much needed consistent support throughout the year.
