Lent 2020: A Call to Prayer, Fasting, and Repentance Leading to Action
"On Ash Wednesday I will join with other Christian leaders observing this Lent as a season of prayer, fasting and repentance on behalf of our nation, with continued fasting each Wednesday until the Wednesday before Advent begins."

Once again, the Diocese of Ohio will be providing daily meditations during Lent. They will be sent out via Constant Contact and posted on the  Diocesan Facebook page  daily .
GO: Doing Mission with Eyes Wide Open
Are you part of a parish outreach project? Do you have interest or experience in mission work, whether in your neighborhood or across the globe? Are you involved with youth mission work?  Many of our efforts in these arenas, while well-intentioned, do as much harm as they do good because of our assumptions and embedded ideas about "charity," "outreach," "needy," and "mission." Join us for a day of learning with our colleagues from the Diocese of Southern Ohio on February 29 . What is Christian Mission and How Can I Join In?
The Dioceses of Ohio and Southern Ohio have developed a five session video series in conjunction with ChurchNext that looks at mission in a 21st century context: What is Christian Mission and How Can I Join In? More information can be found on the ChurchNext website.
Episcopal Peace Fellowship Book Conversation
The Episcopal Peace Fellowship will host a conversation over "The Cellist of Sarajevo" by Steven Galloway on Saturday, February 29 at 12:00 p.m. in the Trinity Cathedral Board Room. A  study guide for the book is available. Please contact Bruce Freeman at  [email protected] with any questions.
Commission for Racial Understanding Resources
The Commission for Racial Understanding (CRU) has released their February resources.
Connecting Communities
Connecting Communities is a six-month process through which parishes commit to try exercises and experiments in their parishes and neighborhoods to develop deeper relationships with God, each other, and members of their communities. The trainings are March 7, May 30, and September 26. The locations of the trainings will be decided once parish registration is closed. The deadline to register is March 1. 
Volunteer Days at Bellwether Farm
Join us on Wednesday, March 4 or Saturday, March 28  from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.for a volunteer farm day at Bellwether Farm.  Register through Eventbrite.   Volunteering on Bellwether Farm's 1.5 acre farm is an experience like no other. Spend the morning learning about regenerative farming while harvesting, processing, weeding, and building community in the process. No experience is required and we welcome all ages. Please wear close-toed shoes and bring a water bottle. We do ask that you try and stay for the entire volunteer block if possible. We'll send you home with some farm produce as a thank you for your time and investment in our community.
Summer Camp at Bellwether Farm
Bellwether Farm summer camp is an opportunity for campers to immerse themselves in fun, engaging outdoor activities. These programs will seek to teach healthy social, nutritional, and environmental practices, while providing a safe context in which to encounter God's beautiful creation. Campers will have an opportunity to learn about organic gardening, animal care, and creative cooking. They will also participate in traditional camp activities, including swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, fishing, and field games. The Bellwether Farm staff is invested in the life of every camper, seeking to inspire future generations to become passionate leaders in the world around them.

Clergy Conference
Clergy Conference will be held May 12-14 at The Lodge at Geneva-on-the-Lake. All full-time active parochial clergy are required to attend. Registration is now open. The conference will begin on Tuesday, May 12 at 2:00 p.m. with opening worship. The conference will conclude on Thursday, May 14 at 12:00 p.m. Double occupancy is $160 and single occupancy is $225, which includes overnight accommodations for Tuesday and Wednesday, and Tuesday dinner, Wednesday lunch, and Wednesday dinner. There will be a cash bar on Tuesday and Wednesday. Breakfast is not included. The registration deadline is March 18. Upcoming Safeguarding God's Children Trainings
Do you need Safeguarding God's Children training? The updated Policies for the Protection of Children and Youth from Abuse require Safeguarding God's Children training for many parish leaders, including vestry members. (See more at  dohio.org/safeguarding). Upcoming trainings are scheduled for:

Summer Internships  with  the Diocese
The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio will be offering up to four summer internships geared towards college students interested in gaining experience in an office setting. Interns will work on various projects in the offices of Communications, Mission, Development, and the Diocesan Archives. More information is available on the Diocesan website. Carlotta East Scholarship
Carlotta East scholarship applications are now being accepted. This program has assisted many women in the Diocese of Ohio with financial aid since it was established in 1945. Funds are available for those who need assistance to complete their education, upgrade their skills before returning to the workforce, or complete religious training. The usual grant is approximately $1,000. Applicants must hold at least junior undergraduate status by August 2020 in order to apply. Information about the scholarship and the application form may be found on the diocesan website. The deadline for applications is March 31.
2020 Anti-Racism Training Dates
Anti-Racism training is required for all individuals in elected and appointed Diocesan positions, and it is also open to all members of the Diocese. The Commission for Racial Understanding will offer this two day training on the following dates:
  • May 8 and 9 at Bellwether Farm (Friday and Saturday)
  • August 28 and 29 at Trinity Commons (Friday and Saturday)
  • November 6 and 7 at Bellwether Farm (Friday and Saturday)
T he training goes from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on the first day and 9:00 a.m. until  4:00 p.m. on the second day. The cost of the training materials and food is covered by the Diocese of Ohio, but lodging is the responsibility of the participant (or their parish). Lodging options for Bellwether Farm are shown on the registration form .

Organ Recital
St. Paul's, Cleveland Heights will host an Organ Recital by Todd Wilson, Director of Music at Trinity Cathedral, on February 28 at 7:30 p.m.
Including  Millennials in Worship
St. John's, Youngstown is hosting a  talk and discussion  about including millennials in worship on Saturday,  February 29  from 10:00-11:30 a.m.. TREBLEFEST at Trinity Cathedral
Trinity Cathedral will host TREBLEFEST on February 29. This is a day-long workshop for youth choirs from the Diocese that will culminate in a Choral Evensong at 3:00 p.m. where Bishop Hollingsworth will be the officiant. Messy Church
St. Peter's, Lakewood is hosting Messy Church on Sunday, March 1 at 9:00 a.m. Messy Church is an intergenerational worship experience that explores God's love in an accessible way. This event is free, but please email Michelle at  [email protected] to reserve your space. Everyone is welcomed as they are. Whether you are single or partnered, young or old, tidy or messy, have questions or doubts, are filled with joy or struggling with life you will be welcomed at Messy Church. All ages gather to engage in activities, crafts and games that bring the seasons biblical story to life. Following the activities and crafts, all will join in a short celebration with an interactive bible story, music, and prayer. Each Messy Church concludes with a meal, sitting at the table with new and old friends sharing the stories of our real and messy lives .
Joan Chittister  The  Play
Trinity, Toledo will host Arizona Actor Teri Bays as she performs her one-woman play on March 1 at 4:00 p.m. The play is about Benedictive Activist Nun Joan Chittister titled, Joan Chittister: Her story, my story, our story. This is a free performance. A free will offering to support the  Benedictine Sisters of Erie.
Sunday Evensong and Praying of the Great Litany

Monthly Prayer Meeting
St. Paul's, Akron  hosts a once-a-month prayer meeting on a Tuesday night. The next prayer meeting is March 3 at 7:00 p.m. Come and join us as we pray for our congregation, our mission, one another, and the world as a part of maintaining and fostering a climate and culture of prayer. Lenten Retreat: Signs of Life: Why Church Matters
St. Peter's, Lakewood invites you to a Lenten retreat organized around the Society of Saint John the Evangelist's Lenten program, "Signs of Life: Why Church Matters." The program will be held on Friday, March 6 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. (with supper included) and Saturday March 7 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. (with lunch included). The program will offer the opportunity to engage with elemental aspects of liturgy and scripture: light, water, food, shelter, and community. It will also help us connect the "Signs of Life" to our own spiritual practices. The retreat will provide ample opportunities for prayer, reflection, walking, community, and most of all, rest. Prayer & Contemplation: A Lenten Quiet Day
St. Paul's, Cleveland Heights will hold a Quiet Day on Friday, March 6 from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. Dr. Sally Wilson, a practicing clinical psychologist with an interest in health and spiritual direction, will lead presentations on prayer and contemplation interspersed with time for silent reflection. The labyrinth will be available in Tucker Hall and attendees are invited to bring knitting, a journal, a Bible, or another resource to enjoy during quiet time. The cost is $15 for lunch. Soup and Chili Cookoff
Grace Church, Willoughby will host its 8th Annual Soup & Chili Cookoff on Saturday, March 7 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Attendees can sample the entries and vote for their favorites. Prizes will be awarded in both categories. All proceeds will benefit the church's Little Feet Ministry, which helps buy shoes for school children in the Willoughby-Eastlake community who are in need .
Simple Gifts Concert and Workshops
St. Peter's, Ashtabula announces the return of Simple Gifts, a folk band, on March 7 and 8. On Saturday, March 7 the concert will include music demo workshops at the Geneva Public Library from 10:30-11:00 a.m. and will be oriented to children, with hands-on music making from 12:00-2:00 p.m. for middle and high school students. The class size in limited to 30. On Sunday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. Simple Gifts will offer a free concert, followed by a reception and jam session in the sanctuary. As always, all are welcome. This event is sponsored by the St. Peter Church Fine Arts Committee and underwritten by the Robert S. Morrison Foundation .
Lenten Breakfast
St. Paul's, Akron will host a Lenten breakfast on Saturday, March 14 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the parish hall. Join the Rev. Susan Tiffany for a breakfast as she leads a talk on a "Lenten Journey through Art and Scripture." Registration is required by March 11. D ocumentary Film Series
St. Paul's, Fremont is hosting a documentary film series held at the Birchard Public Library. Each event includes a documentary and discussion. Snacks will be provided. All events will be held from 6:30-8:00 p.m. On March 26, the topic discussed will be Redlining and Institutional Racism . There will be two more events upcoming in the next three months.
Shrimp Fry
Church of the Good Shepherd, Lyndhurst will host a Lenten Shrimp Fry fundraiser on March 27 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. The dinner will offer a $12 shrimp meal, a $10 vegetarian meal, and a $4 kids meal. Desserts and cold drinks will be available for purchase.
